DAVID IS RIGHT (AS ALWAYS,,LOL) IN THAT BEFORE YOU SET IT UP WITH A 31 SPLINE SPOOL, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE PLENTY OF 12 BOLT AXLES AVAILABLE. YOU WILL BEND SOME, BREAK A FEW AND AN UPGRADED AXLE WILL ALWAYS GET YOU AT LEAST A HIGHER SPOT IN THE PRIZE MONEY THAN A BROKEN ONE IN THE DIRT... THERE IS A BETTER 31 SPLINE AXLE, BUT WE WONT LET THAT CAT OUT TOO SOON........

how about you pm me that axle so i can start looking for that lol. just figured i would give it a shot ;D. the thing that hurts me is that im impatient and if i find something i can get i usually jump on it. i should just save up and get the good axles for it but that might take me awhile lol.

David its great to here everything you have to say on this stuff and thank you. I have been finishing in top 3 or 4 at about the smallest derbies around with the stockest set up around, but that is still alot of work. Allways had GM 28 spline c clip I am upgrading to 31spline c clip. I got a welded up 71-76 wagon carrier to save my side gears can I put it in an 8.8 housing. Iv done a little work on it it seems the shims need to be thinned thanks

I WOULD NOT CALL A CHANGE FROM 28 SPLINE TO 31 SPLINE C-CLIP BEING AND "UPGRADE". YOU ARE STILL DEALING WITH C-CLIPS, VERY, VERY BAD IDEA... YOU WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE NUB END OF THE AXLE BREAKING OFF AND THEN THE AXLE COMES OUT. NO GOOD..BE SMART, NOT CHEAP....

Hello. I agree, 31 spline "C" clip axle shafts are not much of an up-grade. However, an up-grade yes, and cheap yes. So, try it, and see how you do.
Now, I think, you want to put in a GM wagon carrier in an 8.8" Ford center section? I know the carrier must be very close, but, the pinion shaft will be the problem. Gear sets are just that, sets, made to work, as a set. Never interchange a pinion shaft with another ring gear. It will only be a matter of time before it WILL fail. I think you should simply get the factory Ford 31 spline side gears for your 8.8". Weld these side gears up for your (GM?) 31 spline axle shafts. Yes, Ford makes 31 spline side gears for the 8.8". Many, many, tens of thousands of them. And yes, 31 spline axle shafts (Ford, GM, after market) will slide right in them. There are also a lot of Ford 8.8" gear sets out there. I hope this helps. Hello. I get E-mail every day. I am up to date on E-mails, so if you did not get a response from me, you need to re-send. Please E-mail, no pms. I do not respond, much, to pms.
I ussually like to try and test (abuse, bash, break..etc...) products before I sell to the general public. There will be a few items being tested (very hard) at the Topeka show in a few weeks. More to come, time will tell. I think they should work quite well, but, testing first in the REAL derby world. I hardly ever put a product out for sale, with out testing first. I could never build some thing, say "here it is, the best and greatest" "you got to have this to win", with out even one single test. All for now. David Bryan

Mr. Bryan , I read back a page where you were recommending a specific bearing for a set of resplined 31 spline caddy axles , and you stated you had brass bushings for $45 each. My question is , I have a 9 inch 31 spline moser axles and one got bent a year ago , I used the bearings that came with the axle package (sealed bearing) , I know bad idea .. Anywho , I bought another axle to replace the bent one and wanted to put a bearing or a bushing like you referenced on BOTH axles .. I think what happened is that the roller bearing busted from a wheel shot and allowed the axle enough clearance to bend like it did.. My thinking is , if I had a bushing it would be harder to bend an axle.. So , do you make a brass bushing for a 9 inch housing with moser 31 spline axles ? If so , what , where , when and how much .. ? Thanks
