Our group has never used an overkill pedal, but we have had bad luck with rods. We have bent and broke a few. We have also had them hang up and leave the throttle wide open. We have had no problems with cables.

We have been working on a cable design for about 3 or 4 years now (seriously). I never liked most of what was on the market because they trashed the carbs I sold to people (but I was always to blame, of course).
The problem is that I don't want to roll something out just to make a buck. I want this thing to be the ultimate pedal design, and actually, if we keep going on the path we are, it will be great for more than derby use.
Most of the cable setups seem kind of thrown together and have drawbacks. I think our only drawback with be the price.

Sorry for not answering your question - I have engine customers who use this setup. If you set the stops correctly, and don't bend any linkage, you will have good luck with it. Scott

Gards pedals are top notch and have several adjustment point and a stop to keep your cable adjusted properly and to keep from damaging the carb!!

I wish this site had a like button like fb so I could like your comments crusher...lol but to answer the question if you run a dp I would invest in a cable setup. My reasoning for this is you can leaves more of your firewall in for your dp to push back on and u can use prep existing holes in your firewall to run your cable threw. I have an overkill pedal and I loved it and had no issue when I was cutting out most of my firewall, when I started running a dp I cut out what I thought was plenty of room and got by rod in a bind, I then cut more out and my frame kinked on the passenger side binding up my rod again. So imo cable only way to go unless ur cutting out majority of firewall.
