We all have someone who we consider a hero in this sport. Maybe they introduced you to it. Maybe they gave you a car. Maybe they gave you that first beaing A.k.a rookies welcome.
I will start with mine. I have several but the two biggest on my list are a guy by the name of John Porter #77 and also Darryl Lee #714. I have been around derbying since i was 12 thanks to Darryl. I use to help work on his cars before he retired. Yea i was the grinding boy but we all have to start somewhere. Then my first year i wanted to build a car he let me use his place, tools, and he bought me a car and provided me an engine. He always stayed on me about doing everything right and made sure i had all the parts i needed. John Porter is in my opinion one of the best drivers of all time. If you seen his garage it was lined with trophies. He taught me alot about derbying and building cars. He has even lent me a motor when mine wouldnt run. Yes he is known as a cheater but hey we all do it and as i heard it isnt cheating its competing. I would always go check out johns car as soon as he got to the track and he would alsways come look at mine and tell me what i needed to do differently next time. He knew what he was talking about and he always knew how to have fun.
