OLD SCHOOL RULES
VEHICLE REGULATIONS
Any yearcar: No hearses, limos, sedagons,Imperials,SUV's or trucks.
VEHICLE PREP
... All glass, trim and stock gas tanks must be removed.
BODY
Anything can be removed; nothing can be added, unless it is in the rules.
Bumpers; any bumper on any car. Must be stock auto bumper and shocks. Bumper can be welded to the shocks and shocks to car, shocks can be collapsed and welded. If shocks are removed, the bumper can be welded straight to the frame. Bumpers can be chained also, one chain per side. Chains can be welded to the bumper and frame horn, DO NOT lay them on the bumper shock and weld them down.
No other welding is allowed, unless stated in the rules.
Body mounts must remain stock and in place; don't touch them. Hood and trunk can be held shut with #9 wire or smaller.You can have up to 8 spots on the hood and trunk, wired with up to 4 strands through each hole or 8 spots with 2" angle iron, no longer than 2" with one 3/8" bolt . Two pieces of allthread can be used in the hood and two in the trunk, 1" or smaller.Two plates on each allthread, one on bottom of frame and the other on the outside of the trunklid or hood.
Notching the frame is OK; no pre-bending.
Doors can be welded, bolted chained or wired shut.
Hood must have 2 large holes so we can see inside.
DRIVE TRAIN
Any year engine and transmission is OK, engine and transmission must remain stock. Does NOT have to be manufacture specific.
Rear end may be welded, but must remain stock with stock gears.
After market transmission coolers allowed. Must be mounted behind the drivers seat, lower than the top of the seat back.
Motor may be chained with 1 or 2 chains per side. You can have 1 chain that wraps around the transmision and cross member to hold it in place.
Radiator can have 2 extra hold downs to help keep it in place.
Exhaust may exit through hood. Stock or headers.
Coil springs can be wired, welded or clamped in place, bottom only.
SUSPENSION
Must have a soft bounce
TIRES
7" x 15" or smaller required; No studs on drive wheels; Tubes are OK-- NO stuffing or filling.
CAGE
Required: Dash bar, seat bar and 2 bars connecting them; Seat bar must be within 6" of the rear of the driver's seat. Connecting bars cannot extend past the dash and seat bars. No down bars. Cage can be welded to sheet metal only.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
*Up to 2 batteries may be used, and must be securely fastened to the floor and covered.
*Gas tank must be secure and covered behind the driver.
*Boat tank, or something similar, is preferred.

H & J's BIG CAR RULES
Please note:
* Registration closes 1/2 hour before the show is scheduled to start.
* Drivers' meeting is 15 minutes before the show is scheduled to start.
The show needs to start on time!
... Required:
* Drivers must be 18 years of age or older. Drivers aged 16 & 17 and pit entrants under age 18 require a signed release from a parent or legal guardian. Proof of age is mandatory if requested: be prepared.
* Officials reserve the right to accept or reject any and all entries. NO obscene wording or photos allowed.
* Only drivers, mechanics, etc..., who sign an insurance release will be allowed in pits.
VEHICLE REGULATIONS
Must be ANY year hard top car or station wagon. NO HEARSES, LIMOS, JEEPS, CHECKERS, IMPERIALS, TRUCKS, OR SUV's unless specified.
DRIVETRAIN / ENGINE
* Homemade driveshaft permitted
* Any make motor & transmission in any car: permitted
* Distributor must not pass through firewall at the before race inspection. This will be judged at inspection.
* Distributor guards are allowed, but cannot connect to or touch cage before or after derby.
* Electric fans are permitted.
SUSPENSION
* Suspension may be stiff. Do not change coils to leaf, etc...
* Do not replace springs or shocks with solid rods / pipe. Homemade / reinforced tie rods are acceptable.
* Bumper height must not be any higher than 27" from top center of bumpers to the ground, or lower than 16" from the center bottom of the bumpers to the ground. We understand used cars will possibly differ and should be acceptable. For example, Spacers may be used to raise height. Do not smash center of bumpers down to try and make height requirement.
* Humps may be chained, one chain per side.
You my tilt the rear end by lengthening or shortening the trailing arms. Trailing arms must be of passenger car origin and must operate. Trailing arms may be reinforced but must be OEM origin.
No after market trailing arms!
FRAME & BUMPERS
* Frame seams and cowl body mount boxes forward may have single bead of weld added.
Any OEM shock canister may be bolted or welded to any car. Amounts of bolts or welds may not exceed typical stock installation. Homemade bumper brackets are permitted, NO GUSSETS OR BRACING. Not to extend behind OEM mounting bold location on frame. May use 2 ½ inch max. Round or square tubing. No thicker than ¼ inch. No solid stock may be used. Any OEM stock automobile bumper may be bolted or welded to the shock canister or bumper brackets. You may weld outer chrome or bumper to inner skin of bumper. You may use two (2) pieces of light chain per shock. Fenders and bumper ends may be trimmed to allow for wheel clearance. Must have inspection holes to see inside bumper. May have ½ X 2” wide strap from bumper to frame or body, two on front and two on rear. Only a 2” x 2” area on each end of strap may be welded to bumper and frame or body. Loaded bumper rule: You can load a factory automotive bumper. Must start with an OEM bumper. This means factory chrome skin and bumper back. You can weld up bumper holes and skin seams. All added reinforcement must be on the inside of the bumper with the exception of a 1/4 inch thick plate across the back where it mounts to the car. No jagged edges. No concrete. All materials used to load a bumper must be on the inside of the bumper. The outside chrome skin must be factory. CANNOT BE SOLID. There must be one open hole for officials to check for concrete. Bumpers can be loaded with metal only. NO SOLID BUMPERS and NO CONCRETE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
No after market bumpers!!
* If frame is broken or rusted through, a small "filler" may be put in to fill the break, with minimal overlap of metal on the frame. If it is a plate, it is considered no good. Do not cover frame holes.
* Hump plates are allowed. They must be no longer than 22" long: 11" each way from the center of the hump; 3/16" or less thickness; on the outside of the frame only, and must contour to the shape of the frame.
* Body Mounts: Do not take them out and place body on frame. You may replace them. If replaced, a gap of 1/2" minimum is mandatory between body and frame. You may replace with a stack of washers, or one piece of anything solid, as long as it is about the same diameter as the factory bushing. Do NOT squish factory mounts. Also, the body bolts may be replaced, but must be of approximate size as the ones removed. Washers and nuts must remain in same location as any taken out. No big washers on the outside of the frame unless specified in the "Hoods and Trunk Lids" hold down section of this document.
HOODS, TRUNK LIDS, HATCHES & TAILGATES
* Hoods, trunk lids, hatches, and tailgates may be held closed with any one or any combination of the following options.
A. Unlimited wire to sheet metal, bumper, roof. Unlimited cable, chains, and bolts also permitted.
B. Up to 4 places in hood and also 4 places in trunk, through the frame, using all thread or home made threaded rods. Do not sleeve all thread with pipe. The all thread / rods may run through top of sheet metal and down through frame. Do not loop or U shape them. They may be a maximum of approximately 1" in diameter, and may be held in place with a maximum of 3 washers per rod. One washer is allowed on bottom of frame, and one washer allowed on top of frame in hood area with a nut on each washer. In trunk: one washer on bottom of frame and one washer on trunk floor pan with a nut on each washer. One washer on top of hood or trunk lid with nut on washer. No big washers directly under hood or trunk lid sheet metal. Maximum size of any washer on these hold downs is approximately 7" in any direction. Body mounts may be removed if installing all thread through body mount hole.
C. Angle iron pieces are acceptable: no longer than 7" in length, and approximately 7" a part. You may put on fender and hood and / or quarter and trunk, hatch or tailgate, no bigger than approximately 2" angle. We understand used cars may not have the 7" space.
D. Tailgate, hatch or trunk lid may be welded solid shut. If welded, use strap no wider than approximately 2" or use filler rod or bead of weld. If trunk lid comes to inspection closed, an inspection hole must be cut in trunk lid minimum of 15" in diameter for inspection if we cannot see in.
E. Hood and/or trunk lid may be removed. If hood is removed, fan must be removed also. Trunk lids must not be removed and bolted flat inside trunk on floor. They may be trimmed / tucked.
F. Hood must have hole(s) in it big enough to fight fires if needed. Hood must remain securely down over fan. If hood raises or bridges up where the fan is exposed, you may be taken out. Sheet metal around holes can be bolted back together,Max. of 50 bolts allowed in hood and trunk total between the two. No added metal.
G. After the January 29th, 2011 show, wedge cars will no longer be permitted.
DRIVER COMPARTMENT: ALL DOORS MAY BE SOLID WELD SHUT
Driver protection bars are permitted by using any or all of these options:
A. Side to side dash bar
B. Side to side bar behind driver's seat
C. Or, back seat area side to side bar
Bar(s) running from dash bar along single loop roll bar is also acceptable.
Only the roll bar may be welded or bolted to frame. If you have any corner bars, they may only connect to sheet metal / floor pan. If connecting to floor, a washer / plate on each corner is acceptable to secure it down. Rear corners and bars may touch wheel well humps and must not have any kicker plates or be connected to frame humps. No pre-mashing down sheet metal. Bar cannot go any further back than lower seat cushion location if it was still in the car.
Firewall may be cut to gain access to distributor, to run lines through or to make floor shifter operate properly. For safety reasons, do not overcut.
MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS
* Batteries: Any type or amount may be used. Mount in passenger floor or seat securely and cover.
* Electric fuel pump permitted. Must have power cut off switch in reach of driver.
* Eye protection is mandatory while on track. Helmets must be strapped securely while driving.
* Inner and outer fenders may be bolted together. No more than 10 bolts per fender, maximum size 3/8" bolts and washers. No welding panels together.
* Gas tank must be removed and, if possible, a smaller tank ( metal recommended) must be placed in driver's compartment behind driver's seat. Must be covered and securely mounted.
* All glass MUST be removed. NONE permitted in doors, tailgates or laying loose in car anywhere. Any sign of glass and car WILL NOT COMPETE.
* Glass, lights, lenses, moldings, door handles, locks, wheel weights, plastic grilles, and freon must be removed before arriving at track. All cars must be swept clean.
* Radiator must remain in stock position. Any automobile style allowed. No reserve tanks.
* Seat belts must be operable and worn. If not, car will be disqualified or not compete.
* Any type tire may be liquid / solid filled, or stuffed; must be 16" or smaller in size.
* Transmission / oil cooler acceptable, but must be mounted no higher than front seat, due to safety reasons. Mount to floor, back seat area, or under hood; not in front by the driver. No reserve tanks permitted.
* Anything may be removed unless previously stated. Do not weld radiator support, hood hinges, or anything else, unless these rules say it is allowed. Do not weld anything under the hood unless it is a repair, except for core support, which can be welded to the fenders. We are sure there are some minimal items that will be, and can be welded, and will be judged at the time at the time of inspection. If there is something you have in mind, feel free to contact us. We do not want welded radiator supports, fenders, hoods, firewalls or anything that would be major reinforcement. Small weld repairs are OK, but will be judged. We understand everyone has their things they like to do. If you do something not on the list, just let us know and it will be evaluated, and there will be a final and binding decision for all vehicles.
* Each car in competition must have a number plate on top of the vehicle. It must be at least 16" x 16" and easily read from a distance.

DISQUALIFICATIONS
You can be disqualified for the following reasons:
* Using up determined time limit to make a hit ( 2 minutes).
* Sand bagging, not hitting or holding
* Hitting driver's door: First time= warning;
Second time = disqualification
* Two small fires, or one big fire

MINI CAR REGULATIONS:
Same as big cars except for the following:
No cars appearing to sit higher than normal will be allowed to compete.
Must be powered by a motor that is no more than 6 cylinders.
Must be 106" wheel base or less.
... No frame shortening or moving rear end forward.
Tires: 15" or smaller tires / wheels.
If 4 wheel drive, you must convert to 2 wheel drive.
Big car bumpers are ok.
