GENERAL RULES
ONE (1) CAR PER ENTRY
1. All entrants must be at least 18 years of age or older. Any participant under 18 years of age must have a parent sign a release at the Senior Fair Office. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license, which is not under suspension.
2. ANY AMERICAN HARDTOP CAR. NO CONVERTIBLES (NO WEDGING)
3. Proof of ownership must accompany each car entered in the derby.
4. Cars must be removed from the grounds within 24 hours following the event or the car will be towed away at the owner’s expense.
5. No cars will be permitted in the competition arena before their assigned heat.
6. The pit area will be open for pre-derby inspection at 10:00a.m on the day of the event.
7. All entrants must be in the pit area by 4:00 p.m. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU WILL NOT RUN
8. All decisions by the Derby Officials are final!!
9. The first heat will start promptly at 6:00 p.m.
10. Pit entry is $20.00. One free pit member for every car entry. Pre sign up 3 members only $15.00 per pit member.
11. No entry fees will be returned to entrants found to have an illegal car.
12. The Erie County Agricultural Society reserves the right to accept or reject any or all entries.
13. The Erie County Agricultural Society or any of its members will not be held responsible for injuries or damage to cars, entrants, and mechanics or car owners.
14. Prizes money will be announced.
15. All drivers must attend the driver’s meeting with the time and location to be announced.
16. No one under 16 years old is allowed in the pit area (picture I.D.). The driver and derby car will be disqualified until the following year if anyone associated with the driver and car is caught in the pit area without a wristband and/or under 16 yrs. of age.
17. No 2-way radios allowed.
18. Only drivers may file a protest. A protest fee of $250.00 (CASH ONLY) will be required before the Derby officials will take further action. If the car being protested is found to be LEGAL, the driver of that car will be able to keep the protest money. If the car being protested is found to be ILLEGAL, the driver of that car will lose all money and finishing positions and the protest money will be returned to the protester.
DRIVING RULES
1. When a car becomes disabled, the drivers are to remain in their cars, with helmets on. Any pit member that enters the arena at any time, the driver will forfeit all winnings.
2. Any car sitting still, during a heat, for more than 60 seconds will be disqualified.
3. No driver’s door hits.
4. NO SANDBAGGING!! If an official believes any driver is sandbagging or lying back to gain an advantage, the officials will black flag the car and the derby will be stopped. Then the car will be painted with an orange X, 2ND time you will be disqualified.
6. Any car catching fire or spilling fuel, during a heat, will be reinspected, if problem was able to be fixed the car will be allowed back in for the free-for-all.
7. Drivers MUST wear crash helmets with eye protection.
8. Drivers MUST wear long sleeved shirts and long pants during their heat. NO shorts allowed.
9. No hot-rodding in the pit or staging area. Driver will be disqualified.
10. NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED ON THE FAIRGROUNDS OR IN THE PIT AREA! Any driver or crew member found drinking alcohol will disqualify the car and they will be removed from the fairgrounds.
11. Failure of the driver or vehicle to adhere to any of the rules will result in a disqualification.
12. No car shall enter the arena after the green flag and before the checkered flag.
FRAME, SUSPENSION, BUMPERS.
1. NO FRAME SEAM WELDING. No extra metal may be added to the frame in any way. Frames may be drilled if to believe it has any added metal. All stock holes must remain in frames. If any part of the frame is welded that is not STOCK, you will cut through the weld and frame and not re weld.
2. No painting or undercoating on frame or body. If your frame is painted, your car will not be inspected.
3. No welding of the leafs, ONLY 4 leaf clamps, 2 in front of axle and 2 behind axle. No tape on the leafs. No leafing coil cars.
4. All thread may be used in place of the shocks, ¾” Maximum; this is for desired height, if anyway this adds strength to the car you will cut the all thread out.
5. Bumper height must be 16" to 22" measured to the bottom of the frame at the back and front body mount location.
6. You may tilt the frames, cold bend or cut. You can do so only in one location, If you decide to cut the frame and tilt it you may ONLY re weld that cut and only that cut. If you add any kind of metal you WILL cut and remove and you will not be able to re weld.
7. 2003 and newer cars allowed to run but if front end parts are swapped, you cannot add no extra steel, must be attached in stock style. If ANY STEEL ADDED, IT WILL NOT PASS!!!
8. Absolutely, no bumper reinforcing allowed.
9. Bumper shocks may be collapsed and welded. Bumper shock bracket may be welded to the frame and the bumper. This is highly recommended.
10. You may not weld further than 4” behind the core support AT ALL when mounting your front bumper brackets on any car. No bolting or welding may be done further than 4 inches behind the core support.
11. Must use stock bumper brackets and stock bumper shocks If any are used. No homemade brackets or shocks. (Front on Front, Rear on Rear) NO EXCEPTIONS.
12. Bumper ends MUST be cut off.
13. No trailer hitches.
14. A-Arms may be welded or bolted for desired height. Material must not exceed ¼" thickness and 2" wide, Top A-Arms ONLY. It cannot be used to add any strength to the FRAME AT ALL!!!!
15. 3/8” max. Chain, cable or #9 wire may be BOLTED from frame rail to frame rail behind rear humps.
16. Hump Plates will be allowed, No longer than 24”, No Wider than 3” and No thicker than ¼”. They must run straight across and not angled at all. You must have at least 3” space between bottoms of hump to the top of plate.
17. 8 lug truck rear ends will be permitted; all rear ends must be installed factory style, no adding extra steel to reinforce the frame in any way.
CAR BODY
1.Driver’s door may be reinforced for driver protection. Any driver’s door reinforcing will not protrude beyond the driver’s door.
2. Doors may be welded, wired or chained. If welded, straps can’t be no wider than 4” and no thicker than 1/4”
3. A four (4) bar interior cage is highly recommended. This consists of one (1) bar along the dash. One (1) bar no more that twelve inches (12’’) behind the driver’s seat and two (2) bars connecting to front and back bars along each door. Bars may be made of no more than four inch (4”) OD tubing; and mounting plates for the tubing may not exceed a six inch (6’’) X six inch (6’’) square. No Bars inside the doors. Do NOT attach any part of this cage to the frame or floor of the car. Roll bars are allowed (4"), they must be welded to the cage bars only not to floor, frame or outside of doors. No cast pipe allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS!
4. ALL cage components must be at least 6" off the floor of the car.
5. All glass, lenses, chrome etc. must be removed from the car before entering the fairgrounds.
6. Removal of the windshield is optional.
7. Hoods are to remain attached to their hinges.
8. Hoods may be wired or bolted, If wired you may do so in 6 locations, 2 of them may run to bumper (NOT TO FRAME) If bolted you may bolt in 6 spots, No bigger than ¾ in diameter and nuts MUST have some kind of handle for quick spin off. One or the other, NOT BOTH. You may run two pieces of all thread through the front body mounts, they may go through the core support then through the hood, and this will be two of your hold downs for the hood.
9. Deck lids may be wired or welded, if wired you may do so in 6 locations. Only 2 may go to bumper (NOT TO FRAME) if welded, straps can’t be no wider than 4” and no thicker than 1/4” If trunk can’t be open YOU MUST HAVE A 12” DIAMETER HOLE CUT IN DECK LID FOR INSPECTION.
10. The trunk and interior of the car must be clean of debris.
11. NO WEDGING…… Quarter panels must remain in stock position; you may tuck the trunk LID; you cannot pound down to create a wedge. Rear quarters and tail light valance must remain vertical.
12. Your trunk lid may be V’ed in the center but must be at least 12 inches off trunk body mount location.
13. You may remove the speaker deck if you want.
14. Body creasing, enhancing of existing body lines and addition of body lines is allowed to the sides of the car only. Do not fold the metal over to create a doubled effect.
15. Cutting fenders for wheel clearance is allowed. Bolting of fenders to wheel wells will be allowed, 4 bolts ½ “max in size...
16. Numbers must be painted, as large as possible, on the car roof and both front doors. If we cannot see your number, we cannot score you.
17. Any sharp protruding fins or objects on cars must be removed.
18. If windshield is removed from car, a chain or wire must attach from the center front of the roof, to the center top of the firewall for safety. It cannot be attached or touching the distributor protector or the roll over bar.
18. The hoods must have a twelve-inch (12’’) hole or bigger cut in the middle to allow quick extinguishing of fire.
19. Driver’s door must be painted white or outlined in another color if the car is white.
20. No offensive or obscene language will be permitted on the car.
21. All holes in the firewall or floor larger than one inch (3’’) must be covered. Anything bigger must be covered. No removal of firewall.
22. If Body bolts are changed, no bigger than 5/8” diameter. Washer’s no bigger than (3”) standard washer thickness. IF YOU REMOVE BODY MOUNTS YOU MUST REPLACE WITH A 1"(INCH) SPACER MAX DIAM. OF 3" BETWEEN BODY AND FRAME,
23. NO WELDING THE SPACERS OR WASHERS TO BODY OR FRAME.
24. No body seams can be welded or bolted. This includes inner door seams.
25. No painting or undercoating the inside of cars.
26. A bar no thicker than ¼” and no wider than 4” may be run in rear window, must be attached to roof and to speaker deck only. NOT to trunk lid.
ENGINE - EXHAUST
1. Engines may be changed from car to car (GM to Ford, Ford to Chrysler, etc.). Engines can be welded or chained in. No Front motor plates to the frame.
2. DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTORS ALLOWED. They can only be bolted to motor and transmission. They cannot be attached or touching to frame, or front cage bar. At least 5 inches from front bar!!!
3. If the exhaust is routed out of the hood, the exhaust must point straight up.
4. Transmission coolers may be used inside of the car. They have to be mounted behind the driver on the passenger side of car. If you choose to use ice I suggest to use a good leak proof metal container because if we have to stop the heat to see what is leaking out or splashing in your car (gas or water) you will be black flagged.
5. All cars will have the air cleaner secured to the carburetor.
FUEL SYSTEMS
1. The gas tank must be removed from under the car and secured in the rear seat area with a metal tank no larger than 8 gallons. (NO PLASTIC)
2. Gas tanks must be vented through the car roof and tank must be covered (carpet, floor mat, etc.)
3. GAS TANK PROTECTORS ALLOWED (FLOATING) NO WIDER than 24 inches, may touch back seat panel but must not be attached. May NOT run straight back to frame humps, must angle in from back seat cage bar. Cannot be over frame at all !!!!!!
4. Any car spilling gas, during a heat, will be disqualified.
5. Electric fuel pumps will be allowed on cars that used electric fuel pumps as original equipment. Electric fuel pumps must have an on/off switch located on the dash, clearly marked with red or orange paint.
COOLING SYSTEM
1. Radiators must remain in original position. NO REINFORCING OF CORE SUPPORTS
2. No antifreeze is allowed in the cooling systems. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC DISQUALIFICATION. NO RE-INSPECTION!!!
3. ALL REFRIGERANTS MUST BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLES!!
TIRES
1.Any 16" tire, any ply, double tires are allowed!!
2. No chains allowed.
3. No studded snow tires allowed
4. No liquid filled tires allowed.
5. The use of tire tubes will be permitted.
6. No screwing tires to rims.
7. The above rules will be strictly enforced.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS
1. Batteries must be remounted in driver’s compartment.
2. Batteries must be securely fastened to the floor.
3. Only one battery allowed.
MUST HAVE A ROOF SIGN THIS YEAR!!!!!MANDATORY ...WELDED OR BOLTED TO CAR, NO MORE THAN 24" LONG!!!!
If it is not on these rules do not do it... if you come with something on your car or done to your car that is not in these rules and try to say ( Well it’s not in the rules ) you will take it out or go home!!!!! If you’re found stretching any of these rules you will lose that rule. Don’t forget we have final decisions!!!!
