I've always ran 70's GM cars. I've had chances to run new style fords but I love my old style cars. I know one of these days I'll have to run new style but I don't want too.

IM an old style guy, im still young but i can remember since im able to remember, that i have always gone to derbies and saw old iron cars. I love the boxy look and how tough they are.. I have a 64 wagon and a 73 buick and my bro has a 76 buick, a 74 impala, and another 76 buick. ive had alot of oppertunities to buy new style, but since this is my first year derbying full size, im more than proud and honored im running old iron.
and if the rules were the same, old iron has the ipper hand in stock streingth. but newer style is more agile. so i guess it would come down to the driver. but if they would allow cars to remain stock, old iron would shred newer styles in half.. the only reason you see so many newer styles winning is because they are allowed to do sooo much to them to let them be able to compete with old iron, if they werent allowed u would see old iron taking home money just about every time.
but i will say this, i will always love old iron but im tempted to try a newer style just to be able to say ive tried both and give my honest opinion on which is better.

EVEN THE OLD IRON ISN'T STOCK OR UNMOLESTED.. IVE NEVER SEEN A MID 60'S IMPERIAL WIN A DERBY WITH A 413/440 CRYSLER ENGINE.. I WOULDN'T BET MY BALLS A 98-02 P71 VIC COULDN'T PUT THE HEAT ON ANY OLD IRON CAR IN ANY CLASS OF DERBYING.. DRIVING STYLES HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH IT.. MOST ALL GUYS IVE SEEN THAT SPEND EXTENSIVE TIME BUILDING A NEWER VIC DRIVE THE WHEELS OFF THE DANG THING AND THE OLD IRON DRIVERS ARE STILL BACKING INTO THE CROWD AND PARKING BETWEEN 2 DEAD CARS... I've ran both 80's and 70's. 70's hold up better but the 80's are easier to build like 70's with no extra stuff. But if people would drive instead of kitty cat footin it would be an even match.

It is just kind of sad to the evolution of the new styles. I think the worst part is the lack of diversity at the big money shows. It was always kind of cool to see the different makes and models of old irons compete against each other. Was there anything other than fords down in Arkansas at the beginning of the month?

There was one box Cadillac. The rest were Fomoco products in the 80's class.
