Hello. With an honest 500 horsepower, I would run 3:07 ratio. No need for any more than that. Clutch or auto, no matter. David Bryan

Most likely 500 plus h.p 360 sbm block end result is somewhere in the 415 plus ci not set in stone yet on what the final ci is. also 3500 stall. Auto trans 727 with nothing bigger then 14 inch tires. I usually run 5.13 gears in an 8 3/4. However, with this I have been wondering what I should go with. I was thinking 3.42 or 3. 73? What do you all think.

5.13`S ARE TOO DEEP IN MY MIND. YOULL END UP WITH A 30 FOOT ROCKET THAT WINDS OUT TOO QUICK.....

stock gears seem harder on transmissions.
Many things to consider ..... driving style, wide open for show or drive to win, muddy tracks are dry / hard usually, small tracks or large tracks normally, do you run tall rear tires or short ones that changes final drive ratio .....
I ran 4:86 at local small tracks and 4:10 at the bigger tracks, I was a drive to win driver, with around a 375HP 350. When I ran my 402 big block, nothing lower than 4:10, where more torque wasn't needed.
Some guys who win alot use the lower gear ...... quick power to get out of someones way, still have abilty to move when running red hot and engines losing power, when you let off throttle, helps to slow you faster if not running rear brakes.....
