a guy i work with has a 305 out of a camaro that is tbi, will an aftermarket carb intake for an earlier model work on this? it has centerbolt heads.
also will a flywheel from an earlier model work if i decided to run a 3spd?
it has a flexplate on it now for auto, will my th400 converter bolt to it? im guessing it came with a 700r
thanks

The older style intake will fit but you have to do a little grinding on the 4 center intake bolts because the heads are drilled at a different angle. I dont believe the old manual flywheel will work. Your 400 turbo will bolt right up to the flexplate.

thankyou! on the other site i posted the exact same info and jokers response was "no and no" so i wasnt sure which two questions he was answering. i remembered reading on here about an lt1 being converted and i figured this should be basicly the same if not easier because of the dist.

No I dont have any. It is very easy to do though if you take the intake off and set an old style on there you will see what needs to be done.

gotcha. i went ahead and bought it, honestly couldnt pass up the deal i got. i managed to get an edelbrock performer(i think thats what it was? didnt really look it over close) aluminum intake with the deal. so im down to a belt and a distributor to have a complete engine.
i checked out the center bolts and seen what you were saying, i dont think its gonna be that big of a deal now that ive got upclose and looked for myself.
would you recommend i order the gasket set for the tbi engine or for a std. sbc?

If you are getting a complete gasket set then get the gasket set for the 86-95 engine. The intake gaskets are the same but the oil pan, rear seal, and valve cover gaskets will be different.

was just gonna go for the intake only. prolly put a gear drive timing set in it so ill need that gasket also. would you reccommend pulling the pan, flushing it out, possibly a new oil pump? just for good measure and justify buting a complete kit? or just let it be since it is an experiment of sorts for me.
side note, how do these like alcohol?

got all of my broken exhause studs pulled out today, been de-sludging the internals and the exterior, it is a hyd roller cam design with flat tap style rockers, the centerbolt heads are the cast iron models, drilled the 4 center holes out of my edelbroc performer. getting ready to get the intake and valley cleaned up to finish up the conversion.
any idead on what belt length i need to run? plan on alternator as well as power steering. looks like i will have to use what appears to be a smog pump as well to make the tensioner work. removed A/c compressor.
the intake mani i have on it has holes drilled for the 4150 style as well as the factory gm quadrajet style carb, wondering which carb to run.... i have a 2g on a different engine, 2 barrel holley set up for methanol, 2 good q-jets. probably not run alcohol on this engine for awhile, use a 93 octane with an additive mixed.

I am down to running a belt on my engine to be complete. What direction does the water pump need to be turning? Is it clockwise like the older engines? If so, it will have the ps pump and alt spinning counter clockwise. Does that sound right?
