2012 METAL DESTRUCTION III WELD CLASS RULES
Driver must be at least 16 years of age, and hold a valid state driver license 16 and 17 year olds need to have a signed consent wavier by parents or guardian to participate.
Any year full size sedan or station wagon will be allowed EXCEPT IMPERIALS 1973 OR OLDER, HEARES, OR LIMOS. THERE IS NO ALCOHOL IN THE PITS. This includes pit crews. If you or ANY of your crew is caught with alcohol, you will be disqualified. Any questions or controversies will be discussed at the drivers meeting. All cars are subject to a post race inspection before any prize money is awarded. You will only be given 2 times through inspection. GENERAL PREPARATION:
All glass, plastic and fiberglass must be removed. Nothing may remain in the bottoms of the trunk or doors. All outer hardware must be removed - door handles, mirrors, chrome, moldings, screws, fiberglass, etc. All air bags and canisters must be removed. Rear seats in all cars and all decking in station wagons must be removed. Front seats must be securely bolted to the floor however these bolts may NOT go through the frame! You must have a functioning seat belt. All flammable materials must be removed from the car other than safety padding and the driver’s seat. You may run a roof sign. Signs must be mounted ahead of the halo bar and may not be positioned in such a way as to strengthen the car. You must run one (1) front window bar. It may be no more than 3” x ½”. It cannot be connected to rollover bar and may not go directly behind the distributor protector and can not travel down the firewall. One (1) rear window bar may be used. Rear window bar must run up and down from roof to speaker deck/rear cowl area with a 5”x5” plate welded or bolted on the deck and roof. Bar may be made of up to 2 inch round, square, or 3/8” flat material.
CAGES & DOOR BARS:
You may use channel or tubing up to 6" for the door bars. Total length is not to exceed 60". This bar may not be more than 18" behind the center post on 4 door cars and 10" behind the door seam on 2 door cars - no exceptions. Dash bar and seat bars may not exceed 4". Seat bar must be no further than 6" behind the seat. NO kickers or any other cage components may be welded to the frame. All horizontal cage components must be at least 12" off the floor of the car, measured at the body bolt elevation. All cage components must be in the interior of the car, not inside the door structure with the exception of the driver side. This door bar MAY be inside the door structure to allow more room for drivers safety. You may add a halo bar to the cage components listed above. It may nor exceed 5" in diameter. Halo bar must attach to the seat bar. Halo bars must be in a direct vertical line with the seat bar. Halo bar may NOT be angled toward the rear of the car, they must be vertical. You may bolt the halo bar to the roof sheet metal in 3 places. THE HALO BAR IS NOT TO BE ATTACHED TO THE FRONT WINDOW BAR.
ENGINES:
Any motor may be used in any car, but it must be mounted within 5" of the original motor. You may chain the motor 1 CHAIN PER SIDE, 3/8 MAX. NO EXCEPTIONS. THEY MAY NOT HAVE ANY PUROPOSE OTHER THAN TO HOLD THE ENGINE IN PLACE, OFFICIALS DECISION IS FINAL Engine oil coolers are allowed. You must have an air cleaner over the carburetor at all times. No starting fluid is allowed. Distributor protectors allowed, must be attached to engine or transmission only, backside must be no wider than 18 inches, must not contact cage before, during or after the event. If you run a DP do not mount your dash bar closer than 5 inches from middle of dash. It may not be welded, bolted or connected to body, hood or frame. Forward supports must be inside normally positioned headers and not extend past the water pump. Call ahead! AFTERMARKET ENGINE CRADLES ARE ALLOWED. PULLEY PROTECTORS ARE ALLOWED. THESE MUST BE SEPARATE ITEMS ATTACHING ALL OF THE COMPONENTS TO CREATE A COMPLETE ENGINE PROTECTOR SYSTEM IS NOT ALLOWED. IF YOU USE A FRONT MOTOR PLATE, IT MAY NOT BE GUSSETTED TO THE HEADER FLANGES OR ATTACHED IN ANY OTHER MANNER. THE DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTOR IS AND MUST REMAIN A SEPARATE ITEM, NOT CONNECTED TO ANY OTHER COMPONENT IN ANY MANNER. Skid plates are allowed. They must be separate plated for the engine and the transmission. NO full length skid plates. NO bolting or welding the skid plated to the frame.
TRUNK LIDS, WAGON GATES, DOORS AND OTHER BODY PANELS:
Trunk lids must remain 50% in the stock location. THE TRUNK LID MUST REMAIN ON THE HINGES. Trunk lid outer seams may be welded solid 3" X 1/8" STRAP MAX (no interior seam welding allowed). If you choose not to weld lids you may bolt them in six (6) spots sheet metal to sheet metal with no bigger than 1/2” diameter bolts and 1” washers. These bolts will be in addition to the 2 that you are allowed to run down through 2 of the rear 4 rear frame mounts and the 2 that unibody cars may run down through the trunk pan in a position of there choice (these will not be counted towards the 2 extra body mounts on unibody cars). Station wagon outer gate seams can be welded solid or may be bolted in three (3) spots through the tail light panels on each side. No bigger than ½” diameter bolts and 1” washers may be used for this. All outer door seams may be welded solid 3" X 1/8" STRAP MAX (no interior seam welding allowed). Top door skins may be folded over and welded to the inner. NO PAINTING INSIDE OF CARS. NO EXCEPTIONS YOU WILL NOT RUN! There must be a 10 x 10 hole in the trunk lid for inspection purposes. Wheel wells may be cut/fold and bolted with SIX (6) 3/8" bolts and 1” diameter washers per opening. No welding of wheel well folds allowed! NO SEDAGONS/SMASH TOP WAGONS OR FLAT WEDGED SEDANS ALLOWED. Sedans must have 10 inches of space between trunk pan and trunk lid and tail light panels must stay vertical. Body creasing, enhancing of existing body lines and addition of body lines IS ALLOWED. DO NOT FOLD THE METAL OVER TO CREATE A DOUBLED EFFECT. RELOCATION OF THE SPEAKER DECKS IS NOT ALLOWED IT MUST REMAIN IN THE STOCK LOCATION. NO RELOCATION OF ANY SHEETMETAL OR COMPONENTS.
HOODS:
Hoods must be bolted down. You may use six (6) bolts to hold the hood, 1" diameter max. The 2 front bolts may go through core support mounts on the frame, NOT welded to the frame. The other 4 must be sheet metal to sheet metal. 5 x 5 x ¼” washers may be used on top of hood. Hood washers may be welded in place. You may install up to 12 - 3/8" bolts or self tapping screws per hood. Maximum washer size is 1" diameter. Cut outs may be for header clearance, air breather clearance or radiator fill openings only. NO welding of cut outs is allowed. You must have a minimum 10" hole in the hood for fire protection. Hoods must be open for inspection. Hood springs must be removed. If you run a metal clutch fan or plastic racing fan do not cut hood out above them.
TRANSMISSIONS AND REARENDS
Slider drive shafts will be allowed. Transmissions must be of passenger car origin, transmission coolers may be used, but they must be secured in such a way to prevent injury. Metal, hydraulic, or braided lines must be used. No rubber fuel may be used. Coolers must be secured in a container in the passenger compartment of the car. You may use any type of 5 lug rear end (Ford / Mopar / GM / Hybrid). No 8 lug, or floater rear ends. You may tilt the rear end by lengthening or shortening the trailing arms. Trailing arms must be rubber bushed and must operate. Trailing arms may be reinforced. Rear end braces are allowed. BUT THEY CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE THAN TO STRENGTHEN THE REAR END. NO ADDITIONAL ATTACHMENTS MAY BE USED. Watts link cars may be converted to 4 link suspension in the following ways:
1. Use a factory 4 link package tray and lower control arm mounts from an older car, welded with a single
pass, and installed in a factory manner. No doubling of package trays or frame rails.
2. Homemade brackets may be used provided they are not used as reinforcement. Upper brackets may be attached with max of 6 - ½” bolts each side. They must be 2 separate brackets. Lower brackets may be bolted or welded. Do not position brackets to strengthen the front down legs of the rear hump. Mount them in the stock locations. Oversized brackets will be cut down. BODY MOUNTS AND BOLTS:
All rubber body mounts may be removed. Body may be bolted solid to frame. All body bolts may be replaced with up to 3/4" bolts, maximum 5" length. Maximum washer size for all mounts is 4" x 1/4".Washers must be free floating inside the car and inside the frame on the bottom side. Do not weld the body washers to the floor. Radiator support bolts may be 1" diameter. Support bolts may go thru the hood and count as 2 of your 6 hood bolts. Cars without radiator support mounts in a position to make this rule effective may weld Cars without radiator support mounts in a position to make this rule effective may weld up to 2” of the threaded rod length vertically on the side of the frame, or attach it through the top of the frame only. You may run #9 wire in 4 spots. They may be connected to body mount bolts or washers inside the car. They may extend up to window posts or the roof. No connections to cages will be allowed. 1” washers may be welded to the roof to accommodate wire. You may add 2 body mounts in the position of your choice. They must be painted for easy viewing. If you decide to bolt your coil springs in place through the frame and the rear package tray, these will count as your added mounts. Sedans can run 2 of the rear 4 mounts up through the trunk lid these must run through the OEM frame mounts on a full frame car. Unibody cars may run two (2) ¾” diameter pieces of all thread up through the truck lid from the trunk floor these will not count towards the two (2) extra body mounts on unibody cars. On station wagons you may run two (2) of the rear 4 mounts thru the rear pillars. NOT THE ROOF. They must be in the pillar at the tailgate area.

RADIATORS, COOLING FANS AND RADIATOR SUPPORTS:
Radiator must be in the stock position. You may weld the front fenders to the radiator support where the fenders bolt to the top of the support. OEM style radiators only, no homemade tube construction radiators or radi barrels allowed. Front and rear radiator guards will be allowed, but they must be made of expanda metal. All guards are to be attached to the radiator only. No guards bigger or wider than the radiator itself. NO SOLID METAL BLADE FANS ALLOWED! Must be clutch type, electric or plastic. IF YOUR HOOD IS CUT OUT ABOVE THE FAN YOU MUST RUN THE TOP HALF OF AN OEM SHROUD OR FABRICATE UP A METAL ONE! Electric ones with a built in shroud will be acceptable.
FUEL, FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEMS:
Any type of fuel may be used. No plastic gas tanks allowed. Marine tank or metal fuel tank only.10 GALLON CAPACITY MAX. Original gas tanks must be removed from the car. You must have the gas tank securely mounted behind the driver seat and it must be covered. Sedans only, are allowed to run a gas tank protector. It may rest against back seat panel but may not be attached in anyway. It is to be no bigger than 24”x 6”where protector meets seat panel. May not run straight back to humps, must run straight back from back seat bar. Fuel lines must run inside the car, not under the car along the frame. Fuel lines must be secured to the floor. Electric fuel pumps are allowed. They must be covered and have an on/off switch near the steering wheel and clearly marked in large letters. All lines must be double clamped.
TIRES & BRAKES:
Any ply tire allowed. No split rims, studded tires or 100% steel wheels. Valve stem protectors allowed. Wheel weights must be removed. Doubled or foam filled tires OK - we don’t like flats! All cars must be able to demonstrate the ability to stop at any time. If your brakes do not work, you will not compete.
BATTERIES:
A maximum of 2 - 12 volt batteries may be used. They must be secured inside the car in front of the passenger seat on the floor board and covered.
FRAMES:
You may weld the top frame seams from front of a/arms forward, no more than a 1/2" wide bead. No other frame welding is allowed. DO NOT PAINT OR UNDER COAT YOUR FRAME OR YOU WILL NOT EVEN BE INSPECTED. Buick, Olds, and Pontiacs may fill the large hole in the frame behind the radiator support. This must be a butt fit and no thicker than 1/8" plate may be used. Y-frame Mopars only may plate the front Y's with no thicker than 1/8" plate of plate. PLATE IS NOT TO GO ANY FARTHER THAN 1/2" PAST THE Y OPENINGS ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF FRAME NO PLATE IS TO BE ADDED TO SIDES OF FRAME! Front frame rails may be shortened however the radiator support must remain in its stock location. 73 and older C channel Gm and Ford/Lincoln sedans may box in rear channel. No thicker than 1/8" plate and no more than 1" over lay past the channel part of frame. Rear frame rails may not be shortened. You may notch or dimple rear frame rails but do not weld notches back together the only cars exempt from this rule it 80 and newer GM’s they can re-weld up 2 vertical seams per frame rail back together by a single pass weld.. You may chain your rear humps 3/8" max chain. Do not weld chain links together to create a bar effect. You may clip pre-ran cars in front of the a-arms only, with a single butt weld, with no metal added. You must use same make and model of frame IE: Ford to Ford, GM to GM.
You may pitch, tilt or tip 80’s and newer style cars but it must be done in one (1) of three (3) ways:
(a) You may cold pitch, no added metal.
(b) You may cut 3 of the 4 flaps at the crush box, dropped the front frame section and re welded JUST THOSE 3 flaps. Do not re-weld any other crush box seams, no adding metal.
(c) You may cold pitch at the transmission cross member, and you may weld a 5 inch piece of angle within 10” from factory location to mount your cross member. Cross members must run straight across.
80 and newer GM models may notch and tilt rear frame rails. You may re-weld the two (2) vertical notches back together on each frame rail by a single pass weld do not plate over notch. DO NOT RE-WELD TOP NOTCHES BACK TOGETHER ONLY THE SIDES. All cars must still follow the bumper height rule (22 inches to the bottom of bumper). If you choose to not run a rear bumper it will be measured to the bottom of the rear mounts.
No hump plates allowed.
2003 and newer Ford products will not be allowed to convert to steel engine cradles.
NO OTHER FRAME MODIFICATION OR WELDING IS TO BE DONE TO FRAMES THAN WHAT HAS BEEN COVERED IN THIS SECTION.
BUMPERS, BUMPER BRACKETS:
Bumpers are interchangeable. Any automotive bumper or bracket may be used on any car. DEC bumpers will be allowed. You may weld the bumper seams. No loaded bumpers. Do not plate over backing holes. We will drill a ½” hole in all bumpers that we can not see in. Shock, brackets may be welded to frame. Bumpers may be fully welded to shock plates. You may not weld further than 4" behind the radiator support when mounting your front bumper brackets on any car. We do not like bumpers coming off. If you choose not to use shocks or brackets, you may weld your bumper directly to the frame. You may weld the outer chrome skin to the bumper inner frame. You may not weld the bumper to the body at any time. Bumpers may be cut to keep them out of the tires. Bumpers may be flipped (upside down). Compression bumper shocks may be drained, slid back into the shock and welded fully. All bumper brackets and shock components must be OEM automotive materials. You may run 4 loops of #9 wire from the radiator support to the bumper in 2 locations outside of the radiator. Do not add metal to your bumper. Bumper height minimum 15" to the bottom of the bumper. Bumper height maximum is 22" to the bottom of the bumper.
SUSPENSION SPRINGS:
No coil spring to leaf conversions. You may change coil springs. A-arms and spindles may be swapped as long as no material is added to do so. chaining or bolting of upper a/arms may be used to raise the cars Lower A-arm may have a 2” wide straight strap 3/8” thick attached to frame. Strap must be installed vertically. No more than 2” of weld on frame. Chaining or bolting down of upper a/arms may also be done to raise the cars suspension. Solid suspension allowed. Leaf springs and packs must be in the factory position. 7 leaf maximum 5/16" max thickness, 2 1/2" wide maximum. Springs packs are to have no less than a 2 inch stair step starting no less than 2 inches behind the front and rear main leaf eyelet. Main must be on top. No wrapping springs around main. NO FLAT SPRUNG CARS ALLOWED! Leaf pack must have a minimum of a 2" arch. 4 additional clamps may be added per spring pack. Clamp material 1/4" thick, 2" wide, 2 - 3/8" bolts per clamp. You may not remove the shocks and put pipe or all thread in their place. A / arms/ control arms may be switched between make and models as long as no extra metal is used to mount them.
STEERING COMPONENTS:
You may reinforce your tie rods, but you must start with an OEM tie rod. Ends must be OEM car origin stock. Do not place with bolts. Steering wheel to Steering gearbox may be modified. Steering gear box adapter plates allowed. No ball joint blocks or guards allowed. All joints must be a remain a working joint no replacing joints with bolts.
The top 5 drivers in the main event will have the opportunity to inspect the winning cars with the officials at the end of the derby. Issues must be rule specific, not opinions or interpretations. Post race inspections may include the use of a drill or torch at the discretion of the officials.

METAL DESTRUCTION III 80 AND NEWER CHAIN AND GO CLASS:
1. All cars must be 1980 or newer only and have a wheel base greater than 109 inches. All cars with a wheel base of 109 inches or less will be considered a compact which will run its own class for its own prize money.
2. Drivers must be at least 16 years of age, and hold a valid state driver’s license 16 and 17 year olds need to have a signed consent wavier by parents or guardian to participate.
3. STOCK MEANS STOCK! These cars are to be considered STOCK unless specifically mentioned in these rules. No altering, swapping, welding, or manipulating parts unless specifically mentioned. No frame Patching and body rust repair allowed unless it would be considered a safety issue then you will need to call Mark at (607)215-2149 or Ben at (315) 651-1916 for prior approval.
4. You may have a floor shifter. No tilted front ends, no cold bending front frame rails, no frame seam welding.
5. Any motor, transmission and 5 lug car rear end of your choice as long has it bolts in place with out any modifications does not have to match make or model. You may chain or wire your engines and transmissions down in two (2) spots. No engine cradles allowed. No transmission coolers allowed.
6. Flush coolant systems. Water only! All radiators must remain in stock location. Metal engine driven fans must be removed. One plastic racing style fan or one electric fan with plastic blades will be allowed per car. All hoods must cover fan area unless a fan shroud is in place.
7. MUST DO RULE: Driver’s door must be painted yellow. A car number of the driver’s choice must be displayed large enough to be seen from the announcer’s booth on both front doors.
8. Rear differentials may be welded and coil springs may be nine wired or chained in place.
9. No rear end braces.
10. You may have one round pipe or square tubing behind driver’s seat, four inch max diameter. Tubing or pipe may must be securely welded or bolted in place or you will be asked to remove it.
11. All doors, trunk and hood must be chained or wired shut – maximum of four (4) places.
12. Battery may be relocated to the passenger side floor board but it must be securely fastened in place and covered. One battery will be allowed. DO NOT MOUNT BATTERY IN PASSENGER SEAT. THEY MUST BE MOUNTED TO FLOOR BOARDS IF YOU CHOOSE TO RELOCATE THEM.
13. Bumpers – any stock automotive car bumper may be used.
14. No welding allowed to bumpers, impact shocks or mount brackets. Everything must be bolted and mounted without adding any extra metal.
15. MUST DO RULE: Bumpers must be chained or wired on in two (2) spots per bumper. Chain and wire are to do nothing more than help hold the bumper on and not to strengthen the frame or body in anyway.
16. Stock size body mounts and bolts only. Do not replace unless they are rusted and broken off. Original body mount rubbers, spacers and bolts only, if body bolts are broken you can replace up to 4 of them with two (2) strands 0f #9 wire per mount. Radiator support rubbers must remain in place. 17. Stock steering columns only. On a Ford when dash is removed and the steering column has nothing to hold it up you may weld in a bracket to hold up steering column. No modifications to any steering components allowed. Must be OEM for that make and model. 03 and newer Fords must run the stock cradle and rack and pinion.
18. MUST DO RULE: Stock gas must be removed. 8 gallons of gas max. Gas tank must be placed in back seat area and properly secured. Tanks must be secured so there is no movement. (Do not use bungee cords for this) If tank is not secure you will not be running. Tanks must have secure caps and be leak proof. All fuel lines must have no leaks. You may run a boat tank or fuel cell.
19. Gas pedal foot feed must be left in original location on firewall. No aftermarket or homemade pedals allowed.
20. Any DOT type tire will be allowed. Tire tubes allowed. No implement or industrial tires allowed. Air filled only!
21. Exhaust must exit straight up through hood or down under vehicle.
22. Windows, door handles, interiors, chrome molding and antenna must be removed.
23. MUST DO RULE: You must run a chain or nine (9) wire from roof to center of dash to act has a windshield bar
24. No solid suspension.
25. PRE-BENDING of bodies will be allowed. NO FLAT WEDGING OF TRUNKS ALLOWED. Must maintain a 10 inch gap. Smash topping of wagons will be allowed but you must maintain the 10 inch gap rule as well. No chaining or wiring of roof tops to quarter panels or frame.
26. Frame notching is allowed but NO welding notches back together.
27. No slider shafts, stock drive shafts ONLY.
28. No distributor protectors.
29. No shortening of the rear trailing arms.
This is a stock class it will remain a stock class so do not do any more then what is stated in these rules. Do not do anything to make your car illegal after inspection. If this happens you will be disqualified and no return of entry. Official have the right to re-inspect your cars at anytime. The top 5 driver’s will have the opportunity to inspect the winning cars at the end of the derby.

2012 METAL DESTRUCTION III WELD CLASS RULES
Driver must be at least 16 years of age, and hold a valid state driver license 16 and 17 year olds need to have a signed consent wavier by parents or guardian to participate.
Any year full size sedan or station wagon will be allowed EXCEPT IMPERIALS 1973 OR OLDER, HEARES, OR LIMOS. THERE IS NO ALCOHOL IN THE PITS. This includes pit crews. If you or ANY of your crew is caught with alcohol, you will be disqualified. Any questions or controversies will be discussed at the drivers meeting. All cars are subject to a post race inspection before any prize money is awarded. You will only be given 2 times through inspection. GENERAL PREPARATION:
All glass, plastic and fiberglass must be removed. Nothing may remain in the bottoms of the trunk or doors. All outer hardware must be removed - door handles, mirrors, chrome, moldings, screws, fiberglass, etc. All air bags and canisters must be removed. Rear seats in all cars and all decking in station wagons must be removed. Front seats must be securely bolted to the floor however these bolts may NOT go through the frame! You must have a functioning seat belt. All flammable materials must be removed from the car other than safety padding and the driver’s seat. You may run a roof sign. Signs must be mounted ahead of the halo bar and may not be positioned in such a way as to strengthen the car. You must run one (1) front window bar. It may be no more than 3” x ½”. It cannot be connected to rollover bar and may not go directly behind the distributor protector and can not travel down the firewall. One (1) rear window bar may be used. Rear window bar must run up and down from roof to speaker deck/rear cowl area with a 5”x5” plate welded or bolted on the deck and roof. Bar may be made of up to 2 inch round, square, or 3/8” flat material.
CAGES & DOOR BARS:
You may use channel or tubing up to 6" for the door bars. Total length is not to exceed 60". This bar may not be more than 18" behind the center post on 4 door cars and 10" behind the door seam on 2 door cars - no exceptions. Dash bar and seat bars may not exceed 4". Seat bar must be no further than 6" behind the seat. NO kickers or any other cage components may be welded to the frame. All horizontal cage components must be at least 12" off the floor of the car, measured at the body bolt elevation. All cage components must be in the interior of the car, not inside the door structure with the exception of the driver side. This door bar MAY be inside the door structure to allow more room for drivers safety. You may add a halo bar to the cage components listed above. It may nor exceed 5" in diameter. Halo bar must attach to the seat bar. Halo bars must be in a direct vertical line with the seat bar. Halo bar may NOT be angled toward the rear of the car, they must be vertical. You may bolt the halo bar to the roof sheet metal in 3 places. THE HALO BAR IS NOT TO BE ATTACHED TO THE FRONT WINDOW BAR.
ENGINES:
Any motor may be used in any car, but it must be mounted within 5" of the original motor. You may chain the motor 1 CHAIN PER SIDE, 3/8 MAX. NO EXCEPTIONS. THEY MAY NOT HAVE ANY PUROPOSE OTHER THAN TO HOLD THE ENGINE IN PLACE, OFFICIALS DECISION IS FINAL Engine oil coolers are allowed. You must have an air cleaner over the carburetor at all times. No starting fluid is allowed. Distributor protectors allowed, must be attached to engine or transmission only, backside must be no wider than 18 inches, must not contact cage before, during or after the event. If you run a DP do not mount your dash bar closer than 5 inches from middle of dash. It may not be welded, bolted or connected to body, hood or frame. Forward supports must be inside normally positioned headers and not extend past the water pump. Call ahead! AFTERMARKET ENGINE CRADLES ARE ALLOWED. PULLEY PROTECTORS ARE ALLOWED. THESE MUST BE SEPARATE ITEMS ATTACHING ALL OF THE COMPONENTS TO CREATE A COMPLETE ENGINE PROTECTOR SYSTEM IS NOT ALLOWED. IF YOU USE A FRONT MOTOR PLATE, IT MAY NOT BE GUSSETTED TO THE HEADER FLANGES OR ATTACHED IN ANY OTHER MANNER. THE DISTRIBUTOR PROTECTOR IS AND MUST REMAIN A SEPARATE ITEM, NOT CONNECTED TO ANY OTHER COMPONENT IN ANY MANNER. Skid plates are allowed. They must be separate plated for the engine and the transmission. NO full length skid plates. NO bolting or welding the skid plated to the frame.
TRUNK LIDS, WAGON GATES, DOORS AND OTHER BODY PANELS:
Trunk lids must remain 50% in the stock location. THE TRUNK LID MUST REMAIN ON THE HINGES. Trunk lid outer seams may be welded solid 3" X 1/8" STRAP MAX (no interior seam welding allowed). If you choose not to weld lids you may bolt them in six (6) spots sheet metal to sheet metal with no bigger than 1/2” diameter bolts and 1” washers. These bolts will be in addition to the 2 that you are allowed to run down through 2 of the rear 4 rear frame mounts and the 2 that unibody cars may run down through the trunk pan in a position of there choice (these will not be counted towards the 2 extra body mounts on unibody cars). Station wagon outer gate seams can be welded solid or may be bolted in three (3) spots through the tail light panels on each side. No bigger than ½” diameter bolts and 1” washers may be used for this. All outer door seams may be welded solid 3" X 1/8" STRAP MAX (no interior seam welding allowed). Top door skins may be folded over and welded to the inner. NO PAINTING INSIDE OF CARS. NO EXCEPTIONS YOU WILL NOT RUN! There must be a 10 x 10 hole in the trunk lid for inspection purposes. Wheel wells may be cut/fold and bolted with SIX (6) 3/8" bolts and 1” diameter washers per opening. No welding of wheel well folds allowed! NO SEDAGONS/SMASH TOP WAGONS OR FLAT WEDGED SEDANS ALLOWED. Sedans must have 10 inches of space between trunk pan and trunk lid and tail light panels must stay vertical. Body creasing, enhancing of existing body lines and addition of body lines IS ALLOWED. DO NOT FOLD THE METAL OVER TO CREATE A DOUBLED EFFECT. RELOCATION OF THE SPEAKER DECKS IS NOT ALLOWED IT MUST REMAIN IN THE STOCK LOCATION. NO RELOCATION OF ANY SHEETMETAL OR COMPONENTS.
HOODS:
Hoods must be bolted down. You may use six (6) bolts to hold the hood, 1" diameter max. The 2 front bolts may go through core support mounts on the frame, NOT welded to the frame. The other 4 must be sheet metal to sheet metal. 5 x 5 x ¼” washers may be used on top of hood. Hood washers may be welded in place. You may install up to 12 - 3/8" bolts or self tapping screws per hood. Maximum washer size is 1" diameter. Cut outs may be for header clearance, air breather clearance or radiator fill openings only. NO welding of cut outs is allowed. You must have a minimum 10" hole in the hood for fire protection. Hoods must be open for inspection. Hood springs must be removed. If you run a metal clutch fan or plastic racing fan do not cut hood out above them.
TRANSMISSIONS AND REARENDS
Slider drive shafts will be allowed. Transmissions must be of passenger car origin, transmission coolers may be used, but they must be secured in such a way to prevent injury. Metal, hydraulic, or braided lines must be used. No rubber fuel may be used. Coolers must be secured in a container in the passenger compartment of the car. You may use any type of 5 lug rear end (Ford / Mopar / GM / Hybrid). No 8 lug, or floater rear ends. You may tilt the rear end by lengthening or shortening the trailing arms. Trailing arms must be rubber bushed and must operate. Trailing arms may be reinforced. Rear end braces are allowed. BUT THEY CANNOT BE USED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE THAN TO STRENGTHEN THE REAR END. NO ADDITIONAL ATTACHMENTS MAY BE USED. Watts link cars may be converted to 4 link suspension in the following ways:
1. Use a factory 4 link package tray and lower control arm mounts from an older car, welded with a single
pass, and installed in a factory manner. No doubling of package trays or frame rails.
2. Homemade brackets may be used provided they are not used as reinforcement. Upper brackets may be attached with max of 6 - ½” bolts each side. They must be 2 separate brackets. Lower brackets may be bolted or welded. Do not position brackets to strengthen the front down legs of the rear hump. Mount them in the stock locations. Oversized brackets will be cut down. BODY MOUNTS AND BOLTS:
All rubber body mounts may be removed. Body may be bolted solid to frame. All body bolts may be replaced with up to 3/4" bolts, maximum 5" length. Maximum washer size for all mounts is 4" x 1/4".Washers must be free floating inside the car and inside the frame on the bottom side. Do not weld the body washers to the floor. Radiator support bolts may be 1" diameter. Support bolts may go thru the hood and count as 2 of your 6 hood bolts. Cars without radiator support mounts in a position to make this rule effective may weld Cars without radiator support mounts in a position to make this rule effective may weld up to 2” of the threaded rod length vertically on the side of the frame, or attach it through the top of the frame only. You may run #9 wire in 4 spots. They may be connected to body mount bolts or washers inside the car. They may extend up to window posts or the roof. No connections to cages will be allowed. 1” washers may be welded to the roof to accommodate wire. You may add 2 body mounts in the position of your choice. They must be painted for easy viewing. If you decide to bolt your coil springs in place through the frame and the rear package tray, these will count as your added mounts. Sedans can run 2 of the rear 4 mounts up through the trunk lid these must run through the OEM frame mounts on a full frame car. Unibody cars may run two (2) ¾” diameter pieces of all thread up through the truck lid from the trunk floor these will not count towards the two (2) extra body mounts on unibody cars. On station wagons you may run two (2) of the rear 4 mounts thru the rear pillars. NOT THE ROOF. They must be in the pillar at the tailgate area.

RADIATORS, COOLING FANS AND RADIATOR SUPPORTS:
Radiator must be in the stock position. You may weld the front fenders to the radiator support where the fenders bolt to the top of the support. OEM style radiators only, no homemade tube construction radiators or radi barrels allowed. Front and rear radiator guards will be allowed, but they must be made of expanda metal. All guards are to be attached to the radiator only. No guards bigger or wider than the radiator itself. NO SOLID METAL BLADE FANS ALLOWED! Must be clutch type, electric or plastic. IF YOUR HOOD IS CUT OUT ABOVE THE FAN YOU MUST RUN THE TOP HALF OF AN OEM SHROUD OR FABRICATE UP A METAL ONE! Electric ones with a built in shroud will be acceptable.
FUEL, FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEMS:
Any type of fuel may be used. No plastic gas tanks allowed. Marine tank or metal fuel tank only.10 GALLON CAPACITY MAX. Original gas tanks must be removed from the car. You must have the gas tank securely mounted behind the driver seat and it must be covered. Sedans only, are allowed to run a gas tank protector. It may rest against back seat panel but may not be attached in anyway. It is to be no bigger than 24”x 6”where protector meets seat panel. May not run straight back to humps, must run straight back from back seat bar. Fuel lines must run inside the car, not under the car along the frame. Fuel lines must be secured to the floor. Electric fuel pumps are allowed. They must be covered and have an on/off switch near the steering wheel and clearly marked in large letters. All lines must be double clamped.
TIRES & BRAKES:
Any ply tire allowed. No split rims, studded tires or 100% steel wheels. Valve stem protectors allowed. Wheel weights must be removed. Doubled or foam filled tires OK - we don’t like flats! All cars must be able to demonstrate the ability to stop at any time. If your brakes do not work, you will not compete.
BATTERIES:
A maximum of 2 - 12 volt batteries may be used. They must be secured inside the car in front of the passenger seat on the floor board and covered.
FRAMES:
You may weld the top frame seams from front of a/arms forward, no more than a 1/2" wide bead. No other frame welding is allowed. DO NOT PAINT OR UNDER COAT YOUR FRAME OR YOU WILL NOT EVEN BE INSPECTED. Buick, Olds, and Pontiacs may fill the large hole in the frame behind the radiator support. This must be a butt fit and no thicker than 1/8" plate may be used. Y-frame Mopars only may plate the front Y's with no thicker than 1/8" plate of plate. PLATE IS NOT TO GO ANY FARTHER THAN 1/2" PAST THE Y OPENINGS ON TOP AND BOTTOM OF FRAME NO PLATE IS TO BE ADDED TO SIDES OF FRAME! Front frame rails may be shortened however the radiator support must remain in its stock location. 73 and older C channel Gm and Ford/Lincoln sedans may box in rear channel. No thicker than 1/8" plate and no more than 1" over lay past the channel part of frame. Rear frame rails may not be shortened. You may notch or dimple rear frame rails but do not weld notches back together the only cars exempt from this rule it 80 and newer GM’s they can re-weld up 2 vertical seams per frame rail back together by a single pass weld.. You may chain your rear humps 3/8" max chain. Do not weld chain links together to create a bar effect. You may clip pre-ran cars in front of the a-arms only, with a single butt weld, with no metal added. You must use same make and model of frame IE: Ford to Ford, GM to GM.
You may pitch, tilt or tip 80’s and newer style cars but it must be done in one (1) of three (3) ways:
(a) You may cold pitch, no added metal.
(b) You may cut 3 of the 4 flaps at the crush box, dropped the front frame section and re welded JUST THOSE 3 flaps. Do not re-weld any other crush box seams, no adding metal.
(c) You may cold pitch at the transmission cross member, and you may weld a 5 inch piece of angle within 10” from factory location to mount your cross member. Cross members must run straight across.
80 and newer GM models may notch and tilt rear frame rails. You may re-weld the two (2) vertical notches back together on each frame rail by a single pass weld do not plate over notch. DO NOT RE-WELD TOP NOTCHES BACK TOGETHER ONLY THE SIDES. All cars must still follow the bumper height rule (22 inches to the bottom of bumper). If you choose to not run a rear bumper it will be measured to the bottom of the rear mounts.
No hump plates allowed.
2003 and newer Ford products will not be allowed to convert to steel engine cradles.
NO OTHER FRAME MODIFICATION OR WELDING IS TO BE DONE TO FRAMES THAN WHAT HAS BEEN COVERED IN THIS SECTION.
BUMPERS, BUMPER BRACKETS:
Bumpers are interchangeable. Any automotive bumper or bracket may be used on any car. DEC bumpers will be allowed. You may weld the bumper seams. No loaded bumpers. Do not plate over backing holes. We will drill a ½” hole in all bumpers that we can not see in. Shock, brackets may be welded to frame. Bumpers may be fully welded to shock plates. You may not weld further than 4" behind the radiator support when mounting your front bumper brackets on any car. We do not like bumpers coming off. If you choose not to use shocks or brackets, you may weld your bumper directly to the frame. You may weld the outer chrome skin to the bumper inner frame. You may not weld the bumper to the body at any time. Bumpers may be cut to keep them out of the tires. Bumpers may be flipped (upside down). Compression bumper shocks may be drained, slid back into the shock and welded fully. All bumper brackets and shock components must be OEM automotive materials. You may run 4 loops of #9 wire from the radiator support to the bumper in 2 locations outside of the radiator. Do not add metal to your bumper. Bumper height minimum 15" to the bottom of the bumper. Bumper height maximum is 22" to the bottom of the bumper.
SUSPENSION SPRINGS:
No coil spring to leaf conversions. You may change coil springs. A-arms and spindles may be swapped as long as no material is added to do so. chaining or bolting of upper a/arms may be used to raise the cars Lower A-arm may have a 2” wide straight strap 3/8” thick attached to frame. Strap must be installed vertically. No more than 2” of weld on frame. Chaining or bolting down of upper a/arms may also be done to raise the cars suspension. Solid suspension allowed. Leaf springs and packs must be in the factory position. 7 leaf maximum 5/16" max thickness, 2 1/2" wide maximum. Springs packs are to have no less than a 2 inch stair step starting no less than 2 inches behind the front and rear main leaf eyelet. Main must be on top. No wrapping springs around main. NO FLAT SPRUNG CARS ALLOWED! Leaf pack must have a minimum of a 2" arch. 4 additional clamps may be added per spring pack. Clamp material 1/4" thick, 2" wide, 2 - 3/8" bolts per clamp. You may not remove the shocks and put pipe or all thread in their place. A / arms/ control arms may be switched between make and models as long as no extra metal is used to mount them.
STEERING COMPONENTS:
You may reinforce your tie rods, but you must start with an OEM tie rod. Ends must be OEM car origin stock. Do not place with bolts. Steering wheel to Steering gearbox may be modified. Steering gear box adapter plates allowed. No ball joint blocks or guards allowed. All joints must be a remain a working joint no replacing joints with bolts.
The top 5 drivers in the main event will have the opportunity to inspect the winning cars with the officials at the end of the derby. Issues must be rule specific, not opinions or interpretations. Post race inspections may include the use of a drill or torch at the discretion of the officials.

METAL DESTRUCTION III 80 AND NEWER CHAIN AND GO CLASS:
1. All cars must be 1980 or newer only and have a wheel base greater than 109 inches. All cars with a wheel base of 109 inches or less will be considered a compact which will run its own class for its own prize money.
2. Drivers must be at least 16 years of age, and hold a valid state driver’s license 16 and 17 year olds need to have a signed consent wavier by parents or guardian to participate.
3. STOCK MEANS STOCK! These cars are to be considered STOCK unless specifically mentioned in these rules. No altering, swapping, welding, or manipulating parts unless specifically mentioned. No frame Patching and body rust repair allowed unless it would be considered a safety issue then you will need to call Mark at (607)215-2149 or Ben at (315) 651-1916 for prior approval.
4. You may have a floor shifter. No tilted front ends, no cold bending front frame rails, no frame seam welding.
5. Any motor, transmission and 5 lug car rear end of your choice as long has it bolts in place with out any modifications does not have to match make or model. You may chain or wire your engines and transmissions down in two (2) spots. No engine cradles allowed. No transmission coolers allowed.
6. Flush coolant systems. Water only! All radiators must remain in stock location. Metal engine driven fans must be removed. One plastic racing style fan or one electric fan with plastic blades will be allowed per car. All hoods must cover fan area unless a fan shroud is in place.
7. MUST DO RULE: Driver’s door must be painted yellow. A car number of the driver’s choice must be displayed large enough to be seen from the announcer’s booth on both front doors.
8. Rear differentials may be welded and coil springs may be nine wired or chained in place.
9. No rear end braces.
10. You may have one round pipe or square tubing behind driver’s seat, four inch max diameter. Tubing or pipe may must be securely welded or bolted in place or you will be asked to remove it.
11. All doors, trunk and hood must be chained or wired shut – maximum of four (4) places.
12. Battery may be relocated to the passenger side floor board but it must be securely fastened in place and covered. One battery will be allowed. DO NOT MOUNT BATTERY IN PASSENGER SEAT. THEY MUST BE MOUNTED TO FLOOR BOARDS IF YOU CHOOSE TO RELOCATE THEM.
13. Bumpers – any stock automotive car bumper may be used.
14. No welding allowed to bumpers, impact shocks or mount brackets. Everything must be bolted and mounted without adding any extra metal.
15. MUST DO RULE: Bumpers must be chained or wired on in two (2) spots per bumper. Chain and wire are to do nothing more than help hold the bumper on and not to strengthen the frame or body in anyway.
16. Stock size body mounts and bolts only. Do not replace unless they are rusted and broken off. Original body mount rubbers, spacers and bolts only, if body bolts are broken you can replace up to 4 of them with two (2) strands 0f #9 wire per mount. Radiator support rubbers must remain in place. 17. Stock steering columns only. On a Ford when dash is removed and the steering column has nothing to hold it up you may weld in a bracket to hold up steering column. No modifications to any steering components allowed. Must be OEM for that make and model. 03 and newer Fords must run the stock cradle and rack and pinion.
18. MUST DO RULE: Stock gas must be removed. 8 gallons of gas max. Gas tank must be placed in back seat area and properly secured. Tanks must be secured so there is no movement. (Do not use bungee cords for this) If tank is not secure you will not be running. Tanks must have secure caps and be leak proof. All fuel lines must have no leaks. You may run a boat tank or fuel cell.
19. Gas pedal foot feed must be left in original location on firewall. No aftermarket or homemade pedals allowed.
20. Any DOT type tire will be allowed. Tire tubes allowed. No implement or industrial tires allowed. Air filled only!
21. Exhaust must exit straight up through hood or down under vehicle.
22. Windows, door handles, interiors, chrome molding and antenna must be removed.
23. MUST DO RULE: You must run a chain or nine (9) wire from roof to center of dash to act has a windshield bar
24. No solid suspension.
25. PRE-BENDING of bodies will be allowed. NO FLAT WEDGING OF TRUNKS ALLOWED. Must maintain a 10 inch gap. Smash topping of wagons will be allowed but you must maintain the 10 inch gap rule as well. No chaining or wiring of roof tops to quarter panels or frame.
26. Frame notching is allowed but NO welding notches back together.
27. No slider shafts, stock drive shafts ONLY.
28. No distributor protectors.
29. No shortening of the rear trailing arms.
This is a stock class it will remain a stock class so do not do any more then what is stated in these rules. Do not do anything to make your car illegal after inspection. If this happens you will be disqualified and no return of entry. Official have the right to re-inspect your cars at anytime. The top 5 driver’s will have the opportunity to inspect the winning cars at the end of the derby.
