reinforce the factory struts or make your own. Frames are pretty stout...front and back, so the are worth fixing the quirk, but my personal experience says the Volvo m/t is the first thing to get rid of. Put in something carbureted and American.

they have weak motor and tranny mounts so tie the motor down with some extra chains if you can.

motor mounts-chain tight or replace with a piece of pipe/tubing.remove all belt drivin acc other than alt.
carefullyy remove underhood wiring, ecm on r/f inside fender can be moved to inside car by unbolting harness clamps, carfell stripping inside wiring, alot of the grounds will be needed.car has 2 fuel pumps, low pressur in the tank and a high pressure under the car (110psi) a tank placed center of the rear seat area will gravity feed the h/p pump. return line needed for tank.
high milage engines toll in a timing belt, easy to do.

add auxilary throttle cable and make sure you put the stop in the carpet under the pedal back after you strip the car!
move your wiring!
make sure you dont have a ZF code trans there junk!!!! not likely you do with a 240.
fix the motor mounts!!!! you can jam a piece of wood between the oil pan and the subframe then chain it. the aluminum mounts break then starts ripping wires and hoses out!
240 will want to bend down in the back plan acordingly!
as always pull your axles when welding the rear end! its easy 4 14mm bolts behind the rotor and a tap tap and there out, that way you dont weakin the end of the shafts in from the heat of welding and it will!
look for cracked rear caliper mounts if they are just pull the rear brakes or as soon as your rear wheels bend a little they'll take the calipers off for you then lock up the rear tires...
old raditaors are BAD BAD BAD make sure its a good one! wire the end caps together and run a solid plastic fan!!

never had a rim bend to hit a caliper, my fronts have been on 4 cars and 12 runs, bent to heck but no interferance, never hhave pulled axles to weld in 5 cars with no problems. all my diff's have been 3.73 gears.on a show with 104 in max w/b swap your lower balljoints from rt to left. the kick fwd and swapping it will take it to 103.9.

my fronts dont hit and they bent enough for the tube to come out from under the tire.
only the rears hit and the caliper mounts are week.
as far as axles go ive broke 2 axles and only on cars i didnt pull the shafts out.
we run tractor tires here and i use the 4.11 gears out of a wagon
just my 2cents

Wondering if anyone has pictures of their motor mounts if you are putting a 4.3 in one. Just want to see how hard it would be to make some. Thanks guys!

volvo motors run great!!! for about 10 minutes!! once they get hot theres no power what so ever first thing i would do is put a 2.3 in there volvo motors took me out 2 out of 5 times.... ive had my rear wheels bend bad enough that it broke my calipers, broke an axel in a 740. lower ball joint broke in a 240... 3 volvos later im getting the hang of them

front bumper, ditch the shocks get about 5ft of solid 2in stockcut in half place fact shock beside the stock and you will see the mounting hole drill the stock so you have about 10 inches in the fran rails. weld a piece of allthread to the shock mounting bolt.install the front plates that cap the fram rails and weld on the bumper.if you can't weld on core support remove all the little bolt's/sheetmetal clips and use 5/16 nuts/bolts/washers.
rear bumper swap out to good steel, collapse shocks and weld.
STOCK BUMPERS ON THESE SUCK !!!!!

volvo motors run great just keep the radiator good! our features usualy run about 40min with 20 cars and my car still runs great at the end! a good idea i found buys you a few more min for when your rad does go is to pull the valve cover and over torque the head bolts 105 to 110ft lbs is good.

I dont completely agree with this statement, my volvo aluminum bumper have held up good, yes they are not steel, but hold their own pretty dang good. Just pick ur shots with the front, i.e. dont half track someone in the rear pillar at an angle, duh the aluminum will bend right in the middle then...

2 of 5 cars built i've remove the bumpers with a hard whack from a 10lb sledge, they corrode around the bolt's and fall off.
so a bumper that's going to break/give it up on a track shot has no place on a derby car of mine

there are two style of front bumpers for the 240 series, one is a bit thicker but I still agree with Smashbob that they are junk. I have had problems with the weak lower control arm and control arm mount. you need to put a big washer or something on the back mout to keep it from getting pulled through. also adding some angle iron rebar or something to the lower control arm is not a bad idea either.

of all the 240's sedans we ran they all went up and in, without doing anything to them. we have ran them at pretty much stock ride height in the rear, with stock size tires. not sure if that makes a difference or not

reinforce the factory struts or make your own. Frames are pretty stout...front and back, so the are worth fixing the quirk, but my personal experience says the Volvo m/t is the first thing to get rid of. Put in something carbureted and American.

they have weak motor and tranny mounts so tie the motor down with some extra chains if you can.

I did notice there was a lot of movement when it was running. Most likely will weld them solid.

motor mounts-chain tight or replace with a piece of pipe/tubing.remove all belt drivin acc other than alt.
carefullyy remove underhood wiring, ecm on r/f inside fender can be moved to inside car by unbolting harness clamps, carfell stripping inside wiring, alot of the grounds will be needed.car has 2 fuel pumps, low pressur in the tank and a high pressure under the car (110psi) a tank placed center of the rear seat area will gravity feed the h/p pump. return line needed for tank.
high milage engines toll in a timing belt, easy to do.

add auxilary throttle cable and make sure you put the stop in the carpet under the pedal back after you strip the car!
move your wiring!
make sure you dont have a ZF code trans there junk!!!! not likely you do with a 240.
fix the motor mounts!!!! you can jam a piece of wood between the oil pan and the subframe then chain it. the aluminum mounts break then starts ripping wires and hoses out!
