pacer tips
« Thread Started on Aug 21, 2011, 8:30pm »
might have a chance at gettin a pacer.
i know they are hard cars thats why they are outlawed in most places.
what are some of the odds and end tricks of these cars?

would a himelink (spelling) like on a 3 point hitch of a tractor, with a bolt and a washer welded on it work for ball joints?

Depends what it's out of. 9's come in many widths from way too wide, to way too narrow.

Yes it will work. The ones I have used most are out of 60s fords are a couple inches narrower than the 70s I have used but still work just fine.

Building my first Pacer. I can do almost anything to it,rules are almost non-existant.
What type of bumpers should I run?
Should I add leafs?
Any tricks/tips would be helpful,I've built lots of cars-but never a Pacer. I live in New York so this will probably be the only Pacer I ever get so I don't want to waste it.

I found a guy with a pacer a few hours away (rare in NY). He says there is a few rust holes (typical for NY). Where are the areas that have to be rust free on these?

80's Chevy truck springs are close. At one time I found a list online that gave you the year and length of most truck leaf springs and there were quite a few different ones that were the same length

Here is a stock sub that I saved aside for future use. The white part is the unibody frame rail.
Sorry, the pics were taken for the a-arms, not the sub, so not a great angle.

No weld, they bend in front of the sub.
Welded up, they bend at about the firewall.
Takes alot of beating either way.

I am using a cradle on mine right now. It is a homemade one and had to do a little notching on it to get it to slide down where I wanted it. I don't know if the Robbo ones have that problem or not. Very happy with it in there.

These are of a stock Pacer a-arm. I believe it would take some mods to make it fit in a Gremlin.

Looks like unibody is as thick as a normal car frame in the picture ;D

No weld, they bend in front of the sub.
Welded up, they bend at about the firewall.
Takes alot of beating either way.

I am using a cradle on mine right now. It is a homemade one and had to do a little notching on it to get it to slide down where I wanted it. I don't know if the Robbo ones have that problem or not. Very happy with it in there.
