Rules and Regulations
Effective February 2012
Participant Entries and Racing Regulations:
$40.00 entry fee for each car. (Driver and one person, must be with driver at entry, free with car)
All persons will be required to sign in.
No one under the age of 16 allowed in the pits.
No one allowed in race area under the influence of liquor. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ALLOWED.
Heat races will be determined by draw.
All drivers MUST be 16 years old or older and must be able to provide proof of age at the request of officials. Drivers 16 and 17 years old MUST have parent or guardian sign minor waiver and release form. NO EXCEPTIONS!
All drivers must wear seatbelts, helmets, and eye protection.
Cars in feature event must be qualified in prior heat.
Any car that catches fire 2 times in a race will be black flagged for that race.
Driver that receives a black flag for sandbagging or an intentional driver’s door hit will be disqualified from their heat, but will be allowed to buy back in for the consolation ONLY for the price of the regular entry fee.
A driver’s meeting will be held prior to each derby.
All cars MUST be signed in one half hour before race time.
All cars MUST be removed from derby site by 12 noon the following day. Failure to do this will result in cars being removed and becoming property of a local salvage operator.
Drivers may have more than one car. Cars qualifying for feature heat must be driven by the same driver as prior heat.
No sitting in the corner and waiting- must be making contact. Time limit will be discussed at driver’s meeting.
NO TEAMING UP! Every driver for themselves.
Last aggressive hit wins feature event. (Track official’s call is FINAL)
Drivers must remain in cars until race is over or directed to leave by track officials.
Anyone on track other than officials and drivers will get the driver they are with disqualified. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
Intentional Driver Door Hits: 1st offense- 1 year suspension from date of incident; 2nd offense- lifetime suspension.
Automobile Body Regulations:
Passenger cars, station wagons, or convertibles (Convertibles must have box type roll cage.) NO TRUCKS, JEEPS, HEARSES, LIMOUSINES, OR CHRYSLER IMPERIALS.
All cars MUST have numbers on driver and passenger doors. MUST have roof sign at least 12”x12” with number.
No profanity will be allowed on any portion of the car.
Preparation of Cars:
All glass, plastic, and pot metal must be removed, as well as outside hardware (I.e. door handles, mirrors, chrome, and/or moldings).
Front seats must be securely mounted to floor, but not bolted through the frame. You must have a functional seatbelt.
All flammable materials inside the car must be removed except necessary safety padding and seat.
Internal Safety Cage Regulations:
You may use 2 pieces of 6” channel or tubing no longer than 60” for your driver and passenger door bars, but cannot exceed 12” past center post on a 4-door car or 10” on a 2-door car.
A maximum of 6” diameter dash bar and bar behind the seat may be used.
4 vertical down legs may be added from the cage to a flat part of the frame. May not work as kickers.
A single roll over bar can be used but must be attached to the internal cage-- NOT the frame.
Front windshield bars- only two ½” diameter bars can be used, may not extend more than 4” past the windshield opening top or bottom. Cannot attach to roll over bar.
Rear window protector- Using 3/8” max chain or #9 wire. You can have 2 pieces from top of window opening to the rear dash area.
External Body Regulations
You may crease and fold body panels, but do not weld or bolt creases.
Rear end of car CANNOT BE BEAT DOWN TO CAUSE RAMP EFFECT.
All doors may be welded outside only using ¼” x 4” max metal strap.

If you choose not to weld door seams-- they must be fastened twice per seam using 3/8” max chain or #9 wire, but cannot go around frame.
You may run 1 piece of ½” steel no more than 6” wide on the outside of your driver’s door ONLY. NO GRADER BLADES!
Hood may be attached with 4 pieces of ¾” all thread, 4 pieces of 3/8” chain, or 4 pieces of #9 wire only. Must have two 4” diameter holes for fire purposes.
Trunk lid may be attached same as hood. NO WELDING.
Frame Regulations:
Body mounts may be removed and replaced with ¾” all thread max.
You can cold bend front frame, but cannot tilt. If you cold bend-- 5” max spacers can be used between radiator support and frame on body mounts.
Watts link conversions on newer Fords: You may convert a watts link to a standard 4 link system in the following way- Use the upper and lower trailing arm brackets off an older Ford. No shortening of trailing arms. No positioning brackets to strengthen front down legs of the rear hump. Must mount in the stock location. Use upper tray out of older car, but must have 2” of original factory package tray to weld to. May not be welded to frame. Do not re-weld seams.
Factory aluminum engine cradles cannot be replaced on newer Fords.
NO OTHER WELDING OF THE FRAME IS ALLOWED.
Bumper Regulations:
Any car bumper can be used.
Welding of bumper skins is allowed. MUST have inspection holes.
Bumper ends may be trimmed.
Bumper can be welded to the factory shocks or can be welded straight to the frame, but no extra metal can be added for mounting the bumper.
Suspension Regulations:
Rear ends must be of passenger car origin only. 5 bolt maximum. No floater or truck rear ends allowed.
Rear end braces are allowed.
Trailing arms CANNOT be altered in any way.
You cannot convert coil to leaf spring or vice versa.
All front suspension components must remain stock. No welding on or reinforcing tie rods or A-arms.
Suspension stiffness will be left up to the discretion of the driver.
Engine and Transmission Regulations:
Any engine and transmission may be used in any car.
Must be mounted within 5” of original location.
Any type of header is allowed, but must be pointed away from driver compartment.
Distributor protectors are allowed, but can be no wider than 12”. May not be connected to the body or come in contact with the body or dash bar before, during, or after the derby. This will be checked.
Engine cradles and pulley protectors are allowed.
Transmission protectors can be used.
Any drive shaft can be used.
Any type automotive radiator can be used, but must be mounted in stock location.
Battery, Gas Tank, and Transmission Cooler Regulations:
Only 1 battery can be used. Must be mounted in passenger compartment securely and covered.
Gas tank must be mounted in back seat area of car. Must be securely fastened with leak proof fittings.
Gas tank protectors are allowed, but can only be attached to the behind-the-seat bar and be no more than 4” larger than gas tank. Cannot touch anything else.
Transmission coolers are allowed inside the car, but must be securely fastened with leak proof fittings.
Tire Regulations:
16” or smaller tires only.
Forklift tires ARE permitted.
NO V-TREAD TRACTOR TIRES PERIOD.
Valve stem protectors are permitted.
ABSOLUTELY NO WELDING, OR PLATING OF FRAMES. NO PLATING REAR END HUMPS. NO DOUBLE SKINNING. NO CAGING IN FRONT UNDER HOODS OR IN TRUNKS. THESE RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS. IF IT IS NOT LEGAL YOU CAN FIX IT OR TAKE IT HOME. TOP THREE CARS WILL BE CHECKED AFTER FEATURE EVENT.
