at first i was losing due to the fact that my leaf stacks were to stiff and wasn't using a slider shaft, now i use one and no problem with that. this year i blew a clutch apart every derby:(

yeah as far as i know they did take over......that washington courthouse show is a long way for me too.....1000 to win compacts i guess.......of course the 80's and up fullsize is 11000 to win........what a crock ! compacts should be like 2500 !......oh well.....back on topic.....i have only lost one drive shaft due to lack of knowledge......springs rotated and came through floor in front of the leaves......took care of that
.......haven't had one drop since......never used a slider either.

hope you do good with it tho. i drove another 75 miles each way when i got it. further from you. i think with the exception of possibly a slider i got everything i need to build this turd. found 2 mustangs for 400 dollars so once i kill it i will be building them. working on a sponsor too. might even end up running a ohio show or to.

all my stuff was too stiff and i would actually bust the drive shaft or motor mounts and tranny mounts. i just built one go to tractor supply and get your yokes there and everything i did mine for about 100 bucks i think it was and it has worked good for about 2 and a half years so far

Thats the combo my wagon originally had in it....I figured a wagon would've came factory with the bigger/better rear end.

there is a couple different ways to approach this you could weld your suspension all the way up. you could put bigger longer coil springs in to make it set higher but then you have to get longer shocks. you could just put some big 14 inch mobile home tires on the front that will raise it some. just slide the bumper up a little higher on the shock and weld the crap out of it but not too high up you still want it to be some what in front of the frame

yeah i dont like sliding the bumpers up on frames very much.. to me puts to much pressure on the top side of the frame to bend up,,, and the bumper i run would be even worse for doing that. but ummm... we are aloud to weld suspension solid and i was going to weld a strap of steel overtop the spring bucket and the arms but that still doesnt raise it up but another inch max, its maxed out now with no engine in it.. didnt know if there was anything to adjust or do to raise it. thank you for the help

Well so far I have only ran one pinto. Used to demo big cars and just switched last year when I ran a Vega. The pinto I ran this year was pretty tuff and I got 3rd place with it. The best hint I can give you is to build your back end strong. A lot of people say these are front end cars, but with a couple added leafs your rear end chained down, and a good back bumper that back end is not moving. Not only is this good for making some huge hits but being able to use your rearend will also protect your radiator.

i personally have never shortened a pinto or mustang 2 never needed to, i don't think you would have much room up front if you did shorten it. i have shortened a couple foxbodies though

I have done it. It is more work than a rear end swap...even if you have to move or fab mounts.
1. Remove and completely disassemble differential.
2. Weld to perfection. Every little over weld involves grinder time.
3. Reassemble and re-install.
4. Repeat 1-3 over and over til you get it right. Took me a lil over 1/2 a day.
I got lucky with mine. I used it, including it's axles, for 6 derbies before I threw it away. I've heard others were not so fortunate.

There is a carrier there. It is just really small and completely enclosed, and a real pain in the arse. If I ever decide to use one again, I think I'll disassemble it, clean it up, put it back together, fill it up with JB weld, let it cure a couple days & re-install it. I did this to a small, similar Toyota rear last year & it worked out fine.
But I probably won't use another one.

I would not touch a welder to any axle shaft.
But, LSD??? Haven't touched anything like that in a long, long time.

unless you do a good amount of patching a good hit from behind could be your demise with the rust

Hey guys him building a pinto and its my first one, i read that u guys use a 8'' rear axle but what about using the 7.50 from fox chassi. Is a front bumper from a chev round back wagon would be to stiff for the front of the pinto or what kind of bumper should i use. thanks in advance for helping me winning. Also what about running a 8.8 rear end from ranger or mustang
