HARRISON COUNTY FAIR - 2012 RULES
ENTRY
1. Each driver must register before inspection and sign a release form.
2. The track official and/or the promoter reserve the right to approve or reject any entry.
3. All entry fees will be $25.00 and pit passes will be $10.00 each.
4. Each driver must be 18 years old with a driver’s license, or a notarized release form signed by a parent or guardian and must show a valid drivers license.
5. No entry fees will be refunded two hours prior to the derby.
6. All cars must be inspected one hour prior to the show.
7. JUDGES DECISION IS FINAL!
8. Pit entry for ages 14 years and older.
DRIVERS
1. Any driver not following the rules will be disqualified.
2. NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON THE TRACK OR PIT AREA!
3. Driver may maneuver forward and backward. No deliberate hits on driver’s door. Engine must be running to remain in the competition.
4. A time limit will be announced by the judges and an aggressive hit must be made.
5. No sandbagging or double teaming, you will be disqualified.
6. Boundaries must be observed.
7. All cars must be removed within 12 hours after the show or will become the property of the Harrison County Ag. Society.
8. Once cars arrive at the show, they must remain on the grounds.
9. All drivers are responsible for their pit crew, pit crew can cause disqualification.
10. No refunds for an illegal car.
2003 AND NEWER FRAME RULE
On new style cars with the aluminum cradles you may switch these out with 80 and newer steel cradles they must be put in like there factory counterparts only using the factory brackets no other metal may be added. They must be in factory location and can not be moved forward. You may use a 3” spacer from the bottom of the frame to lower A-arm where the spring goes you may not alter frame in any manner other than attaching factory brackets with a single bead of weld. You can not make homemade spring pockets. All factory holes in front of A- arms must be open. The 4 holes in front of A- arms behind bumper must remain open. No Stubbing!
CARS
1. American made hardtop automobiles or station wagons are allowed. No Imperials pre 1967, trucks, vans, jeeps, convertibles, hearses, or 4 wheel drive vehicles! SEDAGON WAGONS ARE ALLOWED BUT WE MUST BE ABLE TO SEE IN THE SPARE TIRE, BACK SEAT AREA! IF WE CAN’T SEE INSIDE IT
YOU CAN EITHER PULL IT UP OR LOAD IT UP! THE ROOF CAN’T BE
WELDED DOWN! ONLY WIRED OR BANDED IN SIX SPOTS! TWO
STRANDS PER HOLE AND NOTHING TO THE FRAME!
2. Standard safety belts, helmets, and eye protection are required.
3. A metal screen must cover a two foot section of the windshield to protect the driver.
4. Remove or bend down any sharp or protruding objects from the vehicle.
5. All glass, head lights, tail lights, and chrome trim must be removed.
6. Engine mounts may be chained, welded, or wired.
7. Locked rear ends are permitted, 5 or 8 lug rear ends.
8. Fender wells may be cut for wheel clearance and they may be rolled and bolted with 4- 3/8” bolts with 1” washers max not welded.
9. Any car spilling gas or catching fire will be disqualified.
10. All cars must have factory cooling system.
11. Batteries must be moved to inside of car, secured, and covered. Standard automobile batteries only.
12. All cars must have fan blades covered by shroud and/or hoods.
13. All cars with electric fuel pumps must have an electric shut off switch located on the driver’s side of compartment to shut off fuel in case of fire. Make sure off is down. They must work in order to run.
14. Hoods must be in place and secure. If headers are used they must point upward. You must have a 12” hole cut above the carburetor in case of fire.
15. Hoods remain open until after inspection.
16. Air cleaner housing must be in place on carburetor.
17. Floor shifters are permitted, 6”x 6” hole and it must be covered to keep fluid out.
18. All seats and deck lids except drivers seat needs to be removed.
19. Tilting will be allowed! NO EXTRA METAL IS TO BE ADDED! JUST CUT AND REWELD THE SEAM!
20. Engine cradles, engines protectors, carb and distributor protectors will be accepted!
21. FRAME SEAM WELDING IS ALLOWED FROM THE FIRE WALL MOUNTS FORWARD! TOP SEAM ONLY!
BODY MOUNTS
1. Mounts may be changed.
2. Can use stock rubber or bolt straight to the frame.
3. A 5/8 inch bolt maximum, BOLT MAY NOT EXCEED THROUGH BOTTOM OF
FRAME, BRING YOUR TORCHES!
4. A 4”x 4”x ¼” thick plate can be used on top of body, the plate may be welded to the body.
5. There will be NO adding of extra mounts.
6. Core support mount only, may be raised 3 inches maximum with 2”x 2” tubing.
7. You may use 1” all thread for core support mount only, you may bolt all the way through the hood using 3”x 3”x ¼” thick washer and washer may be welded to hood.
LEAF SPRINGS OR HUMP PLATES
Hump plates
If you do not convert to leafs, you are allowed a ¼” thick x 24” long hump plate, either contoured to the hump or you can weld the plate straight across but they must be centered and welded with one pass of ¼” weld. This plate must be welded to the outside only, and not span the center of the hump. Cars with factory springs CAN NOT ADD HUMP PLATES! YOU CAN ONLY DO ONE OR THE OTHER NOT BOTH!
Leaf Springs
1. Only 7 spring maximum per side.
2. Springs can be no thicker than 3/8” and no wider than 2 ½”.
3. Springs must have a 1” stagger and the main has to remain on top of the stack.
4. Leafs must remain in factory position.
5. Only 4 clamps per side, 2”x 5”x ¼” thick maximum, ½” bolts maximum.
6. 48” minimum and 60” maximum spring length, eyelet to eyelet. No double mains.
7. No negative arch springs.
LEAF SPRING FRONT EYELET MOUNT
1. In trailing arm bracket, with a 3”x 3”x ¼” thick gusset.
2. In the frame with a bolt through. A 3”x 3”x ¼” thick plate can be used as a washer on the outsides of frame rails. The plate can be welded to the frame.
3. Box may be welded to the frame 4”x 6”x ¼” thick maximum.
REAR SPRING MOUNT
1. A 6”x 6”x ¼” thick shackle, may be welded to and/or bolted to the frame. YOU CAN DO BOTH!
REAR SUSPENSION
1. 1” all thread for rear shocks.
2. Front suspension; no more than 4 spring blocks per side or you may weld a ¼” thick x 3” wide plate from bottom A-Arm to the bottom of the frame.
BUMPER HEIGHT
1. No higher than 24” to the center of the bumper front or back and NO LOWER THAN
16” IN THE BACK!
BUMPER WELDING
1. Cars may be hard nosed; bumper may be welded solid to the frame. NO ADDED METAL!
2. Shocks may be collapsed and welded.
3. Shock bracket and bumper bracket may be welded to frame. NO ADDED METAL!
4. Bumper skin may be sliced or beat down and welded. NO ADDED METAL!
5. No special bumpers or reinforcements of any kind.
TRUNKS
1. They may be welded solid using ¼” thick x 3” wide strap.
2. Cars may be wedged but must be 4” above bumper, if you are under this you can either pull it back out or you will not run!
3. Trunk lid may be tucked.
4. You may run two straps in the back window area from roof to speaker deck STRAPING CAN’T BE ANY WIDER THAN 3” AND NO THICKER THAN ¼”! Flat strap.
5. Must have a 12”x 12” inspection hole in trunk lid.
6. Even if your car is wedged, YOU MUST HAVE a 12”X12” INSPECTION HOLE!
DOORS
1. They may be welded shut solid using ¼” thick x 3” wide strap.
2. If you do not weld they may be wired or banded in six spots/two strands per hole, per door.
3. Must be sheet metal to sheet metal, NOTHING TO FRAME!
4. One plate on driver’s door only for safety. ¼” thick max( not to exceed door seam more than 2” )
HOODS
1. May be wired, banded or bolted with up to 1” bolts with 3” washers in six spots depending if you use all thread in the core support mounts. Sheet metal to sheet metal only. For example, if you use the all thread you can only wire or band in four spots.
2. Front bumper can be wired or banded to core support only in two spots/two strands per hole and they do not count as hood wires.
3. May bolt hood cut out with no more than twelve 3/8 bolts.
TIRES
1. Any type tire allowed! May be doubled, screwed, glued, and tubed! No liquid in tires! Valve stem protectors allowed.
TRANNY COOLERS
1. Should be behind driver seat.
2. Must be in some form of metal box.
3. Must be hydraulic or high pressure lines, NO FUEL LINE HOSE WILL BE
ALLOWED! THESE RULES ARE FOR YOUR SAFETY! BE SMART!
CAGE
1. You may have a four point cage: a dash bar, a bar behind the seat, bars on both the
driver and passenger doors which connect the dash bar to the bar behind your seat.
2. Roll over bars are allowed, they may be inside or outside of roof! IT CAN NOT BE WELDED OR BOLTED TO THE ROOF!
3. Roll over bar has to be from the backseat bar and up. NOTHING TO THE FRAME!
4. Cage material can be no larger than 5”, whether square, round, etc.
GAS TANKS
1. Original gas tank must be removed.
2. A STEEL five gallon can is mandatory and it must be securely mounted and covered
on the rear floor and back seat of vehicle.
3. Must be secured with bolts, banding, or wire. No bungee cords!
4. Tanks must be mounted behind driver or center, not on passenger side.
5. NO PLASTIC TANKS OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED!
6. IF GAS TANK IS FOUND TO BE LEAKING OR NOT SECURE YOU WILL NOT RUN!
GAS TANK PROTECTOR
1. May not be any wider than 24”.
2. May be welded to seat bar, the protector must not touch the floor or back seat area. No down bars may be welded or bolted to the protector.
COMPACT CARS 4 AND 6 CYLINDER
1. Must have a minimum of five cars for this show!
2. All rules are the same as the big car rules.
3. COMPACT CARS CAN ONLY BE 109” OR LESS WHEEL BASE!
4. NO PLASTIC GAS TANKS OF ANY KIND WILL BE ACCEPTED!
5. Compacts with electric fuel pumps MUST HAVE A SHUT-OFF SWITCH, AND THEY MUST WORK. DOWN IS THE OFF POSITION!
OTHER THAN WHAT IS SPECIFIED THERE IS TO BE NO OTHER WELDING ON THE CAR! IF THE OFFICIALS FIND IT YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO CUT IT OR LOAD IT UP!
LAWN MOWER RULES
Any riding lawnmower allowed except for those rear engine types like Snappers. Decks must be removed. You may build a stack for the exhaust. You must weld bars on the side of the mower for leg protection. If your gas tank or battery is in front of the motor you must move it to a safe place. You may rig up a hand throttle to run the motor wide open. You must bolt or wire your hood down tight! You may weld or bolt onto your motor a spark-plug protector. You may weld on a front and rear bumper that is to be no taller than 15 inches and may only be as wide as the front tires. No excessively thick bumpers, use your good judgement guys. Nothing may protect the tires in any way. No frame reinforcement is allowed except for what is needed to mount the bumpers and cages. You may change pulleys for your desired gearing. Chains are allowed on your rear tires. You must hit with the front of the mower during the derby. You must make a hit every 60 seconds. No hitting the leg area of the mowers. Hits are to be made to the fronts and tires of the other mowers. Helmets required. Rear Hits may be made using safe, smart judgement. Must be at least 15 years of age. NO home-made mowers. 18 hp limit.
