Parke County Young Farmers 2012 Demolition Derby Rules
General rules:
These rules are a guideline that specifies what we will allow, It does not specify what we will not allow. If its not listed here, call before you do it. Don’t wait until the night of the derby.
Must have valid driver’s license. If under the age of 18 you must also have a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian.
This is a family event and there is to be no alcohol on the premises. This is a fairground rule and will be strictly enforced. You will forfeit any alcohol found.
DOT approved helmet MUST be worn while on the track and eye protection is required.
Cars must have working seat belts for the driver and passenger and the must be worn at all times.
An idle zone will be strictly enforced in all pit areas. Violators will be subject to grounds removal.
A fire extinguisher must be present when using a torch.
No gang banging or sandbagging. If you don't know what this is, please ask
Must make contact within 60 seconds if you are having mechanical problems or hung up. Other wise you must make aggressive contact. If a driver is hitting hard he or she might get more time than someone who is not.
One warning for driver door hit. No using your door to prevent being hit. We all know door hits are going to happen.
One fire is allowed in the engine compartment, the 2nd fire you are disqualified. Any fire in the passenger compartment and you will be disqualified
NO fighting will be tolerated and may result in ejection or arrest.
No refunds.
Drivers will draw for heats
No vehicles allowed in the pits except the derby car and vehicle pulling derby car.
Please take all scrap with you, anything left on grounds the next day becomes property of the PCYF.
Only drivers and passengers are allowed on the track.
All drivers and passengers must attend drivers meeting. Any controversies must be brought up at this time
No profanity or offensive material allowed on cars
The final five feature winners are subject to full inspection after the show by officials.
The driver qualifies not the car. The driver registered must remain the driver all night.
Protest fee of $100. Only other drivers from that derby are able to protest a car and the driver must have cash in hand. At the time of the protest, both the car protested and the car owned by the protester will be reinspected. The only people present will be the driver of said vehicles and officials No exceptions
Car rules:
1. A spreader bar is required behind the seat. No thin wall material. Spreader bar must not be more than 8 inches behind the seat. Car must have door protection for the driver and passenger. You are allowed a dash bar, spreader bar, door bars and down legs. Down legs must go straight down and must be located behind crush area in the front and no farther back than eight inches behind the seat. Down legs may be welded or bolted to frame or floor. Seat must be within 4 inches of stock location. Door bars must be at least 4” above the floor pan.
2. All glass, plastic, chrome, wheel weights, and loose debris must be removed from car.
3. Stock gas tank must be removed
4. The battery must be moved inside the passenger compartment and tightly secured with a cover.
5. The gas tank must be mounted inside the passenger compartment, tightly secured, and covered. Plastic tanks must be in a metal containment box and covered or you will not be allowed to participate. We recommend metal tanks. Do not use stock fuel lines. A new line must be ran inside of car, not underneath. Keep away from exhaust. Gas tank protectors may be mounted to cage or floor pan, not both. Side bars must be at least 12” away from door. Back bar of protector no wider than 24”.
6. Battery and gas tank must be in separate areas and covered. Not next to each other.
7. Cars must have working brakes. Be prepared to demonstrate. You will not run without brakes.
8. No extra engine cooling device. Transmission coolers are allowed.
9. Radiators must remain in stock position. No homemade radiators. No radiator protectors. Engines must be mounted with the #1 spark plug being lined up with the ball joint, no farther back. Engine chains may be bolted not welded to frame
10. #9 wire may be used. no limit
11. Hood must be open at time of inspection, NO EXCEPTIONS. Hood must be brought to inspection. You may use 6 pieces of 3/4’ all thread to hold the hood down. Only two bolts can go through the frame by the core support. Others must be sheet metal to sheet metal or you may weld 2” x 4” angle iron to hood and fender for bolting purposes. No other hood reinforcement or handles allowed. Only allowed 6 bolts. unlimited wire.
12. All doors can be welded solid. You may skip weld, chain or wire them shut as long as they are secure.
13. Trunk. We must be able to see in trunk or a hole must be cut in the lid. You may weld, chain, wire, or bolt trunk lid. If bolting you may use 4 bolts. 2 can go through frame, 2 must be sheet metal to sheet metal. No welding truck lid to the floor anywhere. Rear deck must be removed on station wagons.
14. A hole must be cut in the hood for fire extinguishment if no header holes.
15. No electric fuel pumps without a cutoff switch.
16. Body bolts may be replaced with bolts no bigger than 3/4”. A 3”x3” washer may be welded over body mount hole on the frame. A 4”x4” washer maybe used on the inside of car. They may be welded to sheet metal. Washer can be no thicker than 1/4”. Body may be bolted down solid. You may add two body mounts anywhere as long as it does not contradict any other rules. Other body mounts must remain in stock position.
17. Bumpers- You can use any bumper and bumper shock on any car. No homemade bumpers or shocks. Reinforcing of bumper is allowed. Do not get excessive. No rear brackets on the front of a car. A strap no wider than 3” and 1/4” thick can be used to hold bumper on. Only 6” of strap can be welded to the top or bottom of frame.
18. Frames- No frame plating, filling, stuffing ,or pinning of the frame. No concrete. No forming or creasing of frame. No flattening and welding unused brackets. 4x6x1/4” plates may be used to to repair a bent or rusted frame. Damage must be visible. No angle iron is allowed for this. No more than 4 band-aid plates allowed. Band-aids can not be welded together. You may seam weld the top side of the frame. Seam welds should be no wider than 1/2”. 22x4x1/4” hump plates are allowed. Must contour to frame.
19. No concrete anywhere on the car.
20. Transmission tunnel and firewall must be covered with a minimum of rubber. Sheet metal is preferred. No thicker than 1/8 inch. No exceptions.
21. NO body plates except to hold spreader bar and for driver protection but can not go more than 6” past door seam. You may patch rust holes with same thickness sheet metal. Don't cut the rust out.weld 2” beyond rust. You can re-weld factory seam. Don't add metal just weld. No body doubling
22. No antifreeze allowed
23. Skid plates allowed but must remain separate for motor and transmission. No full length skid plates. They can not be connected to the frame.
24. Distributor protectors are allowed but must not touch cage. Sheet metal only. 6” gap between protector and cage minimum.
25. No solid tires allowed
26. Hood must remain in stock position.
27. You must have pipe, plate, or wire from cowl to the roof to prevent the hood from entering car. Cowl bar must be at least 6” to the side of your distributor protector. Not directly behind it. No more than 2 bars in windshield area. 1 bar in other windows allowed. nothing can be attached to cage or gas tank protector.
28. Stock spring must remain on the car. No leaf conversions. 4 clamps allowed on leaf springs no bigger than 2x4x3/8”. Leaf springs must remain stock in number and stagger. You can not weld leafs together. You can wire or bolts coils to the rear end and weld the leaf brackets to the car. On coil spring cars you may put taller springs in to gain height. Maximum bumper height 28” to top of bumper. Minimum 14” to bottom of bumper or frame.
29. Any rear end allowed except dually. Rear end control arms may be modified or strengthened or reinforced.
30. You may run 1 chain around each side of the rear end and through the floorboards.
31. Steering system - You may alter your steering column to prevent loss and strengthen your tie rods as long as they function as stock.
32. Front doors should be painted white to help us cut down door hits.
33. NO added reinforcement from the core support to the firewall allowed. NO fender or core support reinforcement such as flat stock, angle iron, etc.
34. No loose material in the car. All hitches must be removed.
35. You may use up to 2 automotive batteries or 1 large marine battery.
36. You will be allowed 2 trips to the inspection line. Driver only must bring car to inspection unless pre-approved by head official.
37. SAFETY FIRST: NO unsafe practices like protruding all thread, radiator drain hoses pointed at people, and teeth cut into bumper. If a bumper or something comes loose during the race and appears to be a safety concern, we reserve the right to act and correct it.
38. In addition to the doors, the car must have the number painted on the roof of the car a minimum of 24” tall.
39. Engine/transmission MUST be isolated from the passenger compartment with steel, fire blanket, rubber, or approved fire resistant material if firewall/floorboards are modified.
40. Official decision is FINAL, if you are unsure of something, please call ahead.
TRUCK:
1. Remove all glass.
2. Remove stock gas tanks and put one in the center of bed against cab, tightly secure and cover.
3. Move battery to inside of cab, tightly secure and over.
4. MUST have spreader bar behind the seat and must have driver door protection that may be welded to the frame.
5. Any 2-wheel drive pick-up, blazer, bronco, or suburban 1/2 or 3/4 ton will be allowed.
6. 4x4 trucks are allowed, HOWEVER, one drive shaft must be removed so that the 4 wheel drive option is disabled.
7. You may weld, wire or chain doors shut.
8. Unlimited #9 wire use.
9. Secure tailgate with either wire, chain, or welding (you may remove the tailgate if desired.)
10.You may replace body mounts with all thread or bolts no bigger than 3/4”.
11.You may use wire, bolts, or all thread no bigger than 3/4” to secure hood. (All thread nuts need a handle to open hood.)
12. NO REINFORCEMENT anywhere on the truck.
13. Please review the normal car rules and apply ALL of those rules that can be applied.
14. We suggest you have a cage and roll over protection, and padding is recommended.
15. No Passengers.
16. If weight is added to the bed, it must be safe and non-reinforcing at the inspectors discretion.
17. No welding body to frame or bumper.
18. 22x4x1/4” hump plate allowed. Must be within center of rear end housing.
19. 4 extra body bolts in the bed are allowed
20. Must have stock suspension
21. Maximum bumper height 32” to the top of bumper. Minimum 14” at bottom of bumper.
Compact Car:
1. Maximum original wheelbase dimension is 104”. A car may not run the race with a longer original factory wheelbase.
2. Transmission tunnel and firewall must be covered with a minimum of rubber.
3. Sheet metal is preferred. No thicker than 1/8 inch. No exceptions.
4. No 4x4 compact cars unless one drive shaft has been removed disabling that option.
5. Bumper height must be within reason at the decision of the official, not raised to 4x4 height.
