Re: GM W-Body tips and tricks
It looks about the same in the rear with one more run on it after this, front on the other hand not so hot lol.
9 heats total on this rig, she has got one more good one left in the front. butt is rock hard but all used up, Its kinda stopped moving but a few hay makers would do her in lol..
that chrome bumper on the back of that blue one, is that a ltd2 front bumper?
Yes that be what it is, in my eyes don't need nothing special back there just alittle something to help roll her up. Good place for the cheesy bumpers

for the question on the aluminum dogbone motor mounts..... just take a piece of angle iron and drill a hole in each end and bolt it to the side of the dogbone with the origonal bolts. problem solved.
also, if you take a piece of 1 1/4 square stock and pull the front three fender bolts out and beat it to the firewall and then drill and tap the holes and reinstall the fender bolts..... helps alot on the cars that have the square channel under the fender. Also taken 3 inch well pipe and slid it to the firewall and made some super bumper shocks and car was way nasty. Regal killed 12 cars out of 16 with head on track shots. Finished second because engine rotated down and drug the oil filter off and it finally locked up the engine. Bumper never budged ;D

id use square stock for the dog bones and weld tabs on em so it doesnt roll down as easy instead of the angle iron.

I dont know if this helps but i had a problem one time with a grand prix with the round top 3100 and it "seemed" to help.
I ran it twice and the first time i lost the radiator and it got hot and shut off the fuel. So the next demo we wired in a resister on the water temp sensor and looped it. Im not sure what size the resister was, i can look but we found a chart and got the one that would make the computer read the hottest temp all the time. then we hooked up the computer to read the temp reading and it read 200 degrees right after starting it up, the idle went up, not sure if it was that or what, but it ran great, since i lost the radiator we looped the radiator hoses and got about 15 minutes out of it. (I was made angry so the pedal was to the floor) It got hot and shut off but lasted long enough to get 6th out of 21. My starter must have been pulling alot of juice trying to start when it was hot because the battery started smoking, I didnt diagnose it after but i think worked because it started on the trailer after the show.
I got the resister at Radioshack, anyone else try this?

OK have read all 9 pages but no talk of how to keep the sub from kinking @ the bend??? Also have to try the relocating rear bumper trick have double notched tucked and pre bent n its still dropping also we have had issues with the rear of the sub dropping out from under the car but think we have that issue nipped in the butt

^^^^^Just ran my first w body on Sunday...2 door Regal. Half-a$$ed slapped together in 2 days. I only ran about 5-6 minutes...not long enough to hurt it. Looks like the oly way to keep the sub straight would be to plate it or stuff it...that's quite an arch. I relocated the rear bumper...onto the driver door Ran w/o a rear bumper, tucked, notched & pre bent....rear is going perfect. Crush boxes definitely have to go before it gets run again.
I ran it far from home. Kuckily, since it is pre ran, one area promoter is gonna let me chop it down to qualify as a compact. Looking at the rear suspension, it looks like a 4 inch chop will be pretty simple.

Oh yes. Crush boxes are a def they have to go. We've ran with and without rear bumpers notched pre bent. Just dunno if its ppl getting up higher than us or what the rears still.seem to drop had one going up on one side n down on the other.

It's a factory crumple zone. On these, they just happen to be sticking out at the end of the frame rails. I left them on, and they did exactly what they were supposed to.

Yeah pritty easy to find them. Cut them off and hardnose. The bumper straight on the rails if your lucky you can also weld front of sub to bottom of the bumper.

A soft rear bumper helps them roll in together if mounted high.

The rears are easy to fix so they roll in even, open the trunk and take a look at how far back the drivers side wheel well sits compared to the pass side ( cause of the gas tank filler tube) that's why the drivers side always goes to crap. Hope that helps ;D

I've seen alot of them at the junkyards too. But I think with a bumper and some building they do ok. I'm not going to cry over $250 a piece. But, they will work untell I can get my hands on a lumina. I've ran a lumina the last two years. That's why I picked those alero's up to try.

For August, I'm going to try chaining the sub at the arch to the unibody rail & see what happens....same concept as chaining humps on a leaf car.
Tuck the trunk and move the rear bumper bar up five inches, by removing it and putting the bottom bolts in the top holes and drilling four new holes for the top bolts. This method works on all compacts because it puts all the pressure on the top of the frame, thus causing it to go up and in instead of down like they are designed. Notching or pre bending is not necessary if the bumper is relocated properly. also it works great with stock rules.
you have any pics? im not fully understanding how your doing this? i probably would have a better understanding if i had the car stripped but for the next month or 2 i plan to drive it.....
He can not put his bumper back on because it rusted off

notch wedge and prebend the rear of a lumina. rolls tight and stays tough. my rules allow midsize bumpers only. i hardnose with a 80 seville bumper or a lincoln versales bumper. both hard to find. tires i run 205/75/15s and havent had a problem. i ran mine 4 times and every derby had 15 plus cars. 3 of them were almost all luminas. never lost axels or steering did break both rear control arms though. just welded them back together and went again. only had a radiator the first derby. it got scorching hot but always fired back up. last run i ran with 5 cylinders and lost a second about 3/4 of the way through. still pulled off 3rd. mine was a 91 euro with a 3.1 in it with 95000 actual miles. funnest car i ever ran.

If done right the front will hold up to a pointy but most rules only allow certain things done but what I'm saying is with "STOCK" pieces and parts you can do it.

I always run the O2 sensors. First one installed in the exhaust and the second one not installed in the exhaust just zip tied up somewhere. This allowes the computer to adjust the lean/rich mixture and it thinks the cat is still there. I have heard of people running without them but I had no luck when I tried it myself.

Injectors from a 3300 are the same as 2.8/3.1 injectors( they are easier to get to and test if your at a junkyard)

Yes, it would. That is my goal with this one. Thanks.
We punched a hole in the oil filter on a different 3.1 this past October and ruined it. That one should have everything I need to make this one run good.

In that case, I wouldn't mind rusty rockers. I once derbied an Accord with no floorpans. That makes it a real PIA to attach the battery box properly.

I'm not all that concerned I'm about 99% sure the motor will give way before the car is trashed. it has a 3.8. the oil pump its about out and it pours antifreeze out of the plenum. so ya its a pretty good candidate for what I'm gonna use it for.

Anyone know an easier way other than switching struts out on newer luminas to be able to use 14" tires and wheels?

I hAvent done it to 3100, but it would be the same idea, and there is a dummy shaft with a distributor gear to run oil pump just like 3.1.

Way to much bumper tho. That car will snoot fast
If done right the front will hold up to a pointy but most rules only allow certain things done but what I'm saying is with "STOCK" pieces and parts you can do it.

o2 sensor needed? car cuts out above 4k now, after i took exhaust off i also stripped it all too so i dont know if it was o2 or some wires
Re: GM W-Body tips and tricks
I always run the O2 sensors. First one installed in the exhaust and the second one not installed in the exhaust just zip tied up somewhere. This allowes the computer to adjust the lean/rich mixture and it thinks the cat is still there. I have heard of people running without them but I had no luck when I tried it myself.

^^^^^I like it ALOT!!! Will be doing something quite similar this year to my 3.1. Have done it to a couple of efi cars, but not gm just yet.

Ya actually just did it to my 2.5 lumina, i only needed wires that were under the hood
Pink wire and little pink/ black wire at firewall connection seem to be very important.....

3.1's are alot simpler, the 3100's have quite a few more wires left over when your done.
If i remember right 22 for the 3.1 and 43 on the 3100.

There is an easier way to do the 3100 so it's the same as the 3.1

how much will the rocker panels effect the strength of the car if they are rotted? do they matter very much?

^^^^^The panel itself is cosmetic. The beef is in the support beam under the skin.

That wiring harness looks awesome, but not 250 for one awesome
The rocker rust isn't a deal breaker in my eyes, but it makes it a royal pain to weld the bottoms of the doors shut. Everyone I've ran like it the doors split and tear bad on the bottoms.

Wat was the "good" range on those again?

12 and up. i always use old ones from a junkyard in mine. it would be nice to have a keeper motor w/ new ones though.
