We will be featuring a first ever MOWER DERBY at Lake County Fair. The rules are posted below. Please check www.darkhorsedemoderby.com for schedule, rules, and pre-registration.

LAWN MOWER DEMOLITION DERBY RULES
Mower MUST be a factory available mower (NO homemade frames).
No rear engine lawn mowers are allowed.
No zero-turn mowers allowed.
Engine must be factory lawn mower engine such as Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, etc, max 20 HP..
No frame modifications or frame reinforcing will be allowed.
However, patches to the frame are to be made with no larger than 1/8 inch thick material. The patches may not extend more than 3 inches beyond damaged area.
Axles must be factory available mower axles but any reinforcing and / or welding of spider gears is permitted.
Engine bay reinforcing is permitted but must be contained inside of the hood and must maintain factory bodylines.
All mowers must run a factory hood and fenders and have the hood either screwed or welded down to dash panel around driver’s area. (If hood is fiberglass, you must replace it with a metal hood. You may make one out of sheet metal only, or use another metal hood from a different mower, but must be the same size as the fiberglass one.)
Mowers must have good brakes and forward and reverse gears at the start of the heat.
Gas tank must be secured and have a cap on it. (Any gas at all leaking, you will be asked to shut down.) no rear gas tanks allowed. Must be mounted under hood.
Batteries must be covered & securely mounted out of harm’s way.
Leg guards are mandatory and must be bolted and / or welded from rear fender to front of footrest or frame.
A rear bumper is permitted but is not allowed to extend more than 4 inches out and it must stay in between the tires. Also, no spikes, sharp edges, or any protrusions allowed. (Bumper can be home made with I/H beam or square tubing.)
Re-gearing and changing the pulleys to increase speed is permitted.
Mowers must be belt driven. No chains or drive shafts
All mowers must use lawn mower type wheels. Tractor treads and cut tires will be permitted, but no tire chains or dual wheels will be allowed. You may tube tires. NO FILLING TIRES.
Mower decks, hitches, & ptos must be removed.
All headlights and any other glass and plastics must be removed before you enter the pits.
Electric start mowers are preferred, (pull starts are okay too) but you must be able to start your mower from the seat. No lying across the hood of your mower to start it.
YOU ARE ALLOWED ONLY 1 FIRE PER ROUND.
A front bumper is permitted but is not allowed to extend more than 3 inches past front tires and it must stay in between the tires. Also, no spikes, sharp edges, or any protrusions allowed. (Bumper can be home made with I/H beam or square or round tubing.)
Roll-Over - Driver is disqualified if he exits his machine, voluntarily or otherwise.
For safety – If a mower does roll over, all drivers must STOP and wait until that driver uprights their mower and gets off the track.
Please put your number on each side of your mower or your helmet so we can track the winners.
All ground rules will be gone over in a driver’s meeting before the start of the derby.
Mower inspection will be done by you the drivers. If you see something you don’t like bring it up at the driver’s meeting.
ALL DECISIONS MADE BY OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.
ALL ANNOUNCEMENTS MADE DAY OF EVENT WILL TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER PRINTED MATERIAL!
NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES!
