Lincoln County Fair Limited Weld Demolition Derby Rules

Hello everyone!Here is a list of rules that you need to know when coming. They will have Limited weld, Pickups, Compact cars and pickups, School busses, and chain cars
The entry fee is $75 at the gate, for the car, driver, one additional pit pass.Extra pit passes are $20 each.
Since our powder puff derby continues to be such a big hit, we will offer that again this year following the main event.Entry will be $20 with the winner taking it all home!
We have added a no-weld car class for this year, as well as compact pickups.
We will have trophies for the top 3 places in each event, as well as a mad dog trophy.[/b][/i]
All cars must come to the inspection location for tech.Cars not coming to the officials for inspection will not run
Check in and Tech inspection will start at 2 p.m. east of the fair grounds.Signs will be posted. Pits open after the rodeo.No cars will be inspected after 5:00, so get there early! Driver’s meeting at 5:30 at the entrance to the arena.Derby will start promptly at 6 p.m
GRNERAL RULES
1. NO SANDBAGG!!!! SANDBAGGERS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!!! WE MAY HAVE A SPECIAL TREAT FOR YOU IF YOU ARE SANDBAGGING – this will be left up to the promoter!!!! Drivers will have 20 seconds to make an aggressive hit!!!! If your car is stalled, you will have one minute to restart, and one minute to make a hard it. NO PLAYING POSSUM (pretending car is stalled)!!!!
2. NO TEAM DRIVING!!!! If you are team driving, we will stop the derby. On your first offense, you and your team will have the option to be immediately disqualified for the rest of the derby or to shut your cars off and sit without moving for 1½ minutes. All of team is disqualified, or sits without moving. If you move or start your car before your time is up and the officials give you the green flag, you are disqualified for the rest of the derby. On your second offense you will be immediately disqualified. If disqualified for team driving, all prize money will be forfeited to the next ranking cars.
3. NO DELIBERATE HITTING OF THE DRIVER’S DOOR!!!! NO SHOWING YOUR DRIVER’S DOOR. IF YOU PULL YOUR DOOR IN FRONT OF A MOVING CAR AND STOP, YOU ARE FAIR GAME TO BE HIT IN THE DRIVERS DOOR. WE WILL NOT DISQUALIFY THE CAR THAT HITS YOU FOR THIS! IF THE JUDGES FEEL THAT YOU HIT A DRIVER’S DOOR DELIBERATELY, YOU MAY GET A WARNING OR YOU MAY NOT AND MAY BE DISQUALIFIED.
4. All persons entering the pit area must sign a release and waiver of liability[/b]. [/b]
5. All drivers must stay in their cars with seat belts fastened until the derby is over, or the red flag is displayed. Failure to stay in your car until the red flag is displayed will result in disqualification and forfeiture of all prize money and trophies.
6. All drivers and pit crew must be at least 16 years of age. Parent/legal guardian consent form must be notarized for drivers who are under the age of 18. All drivers must have a valid driver’s license. All pit crew must show a valid photo ID to confirm age.
7. All drivers must wear an approved helmet, eye protection, and seatbelt. Safety gloves, fire suit, and neck collar and full face helmets are highly recommended. No shorts, cut-offs, etc. permitted.
8. Good sportsmanship and professional behavior is expected of all drivers and crew members. Failure to comply with these rules may lead to suspension from future events.
9. There will be absolutely no profane signs or derogatory comments allowed on cars as this is a family event. Any car displaying such language will not be permitted to compete until it is removed.
10. No pit crew members or spectators are allowed in the arena at any time.
11. The driver must be the only crew member to voice any concerns concerning the derby only to the head official. No pit crew or fans will be acknowledged in case of a dispute.
12. No pets allowed.
13. All drivers must attend the driver’s meeting.
14. All cars are given two chances to pass tech inspection.
15. The driver is responsible for his/her pit crew. In all instances.
16. No alcohol or drinking in the pit area before or during the demolition derby. If you are caught drinking, you will be immediately disqualified and escorted out of the pit area with all monies and entry fees forfeited and donated to the derby fund.
17. Any driver who is caught cheating and cannot fix the problem before the derby will forfeit his/her entry fee. NO exceptions! All winning cars will be re-inspected prior to collecting prize monies if necessary. Just because it is not listed does not mean that it can be done. Use common sense and good sportsmanship, or don’t waste time loading a car up! All rules are under the discretion of the head official with safety first in mind.
18. A $250 protest fee must be paid in cash before the feature for any discrepancies. You may not protest an entire car. You must notify the head official of what is wrong with the car you are protesting. If you protest a car, your car will also be re-inspected.
19. All entry fees must be paid before inspection or unloading of your car.
20. All cars in powder puff must have competed during the regular derby.
21. ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE FUN!
22. Judge’s decisions are final and binding!! No replays

General Car Preparation – Apply to all classes
1.Any American made stock hardtop automobile or station wagon is allowed, except trucks, convertibles, jeeps, hearses, limousines, 4x4’s or ambulances.
2. Anything that can burn, such as headliner, carpet, dash, etc. must be removed. All trim, molding, pot metal, molding clips, and anything that is not a metal body panel or bumper must be removed from the outside of the car. We don’t want stuff falling off in the arena!!! Broken glass must be vacuumed out!
3. A minimum of one brace must be placed on the outside of the driver’s door that will protrude no more than 3” from the side of the car and may not extend more than 10” in front of or behind the driver’s door. You can do what you want to the driver’s door. Fill with concrete, plate with iron, pad, etc. We want you safe! The driver’s door must be painted a contrasting color from the rest of the car. You may also install a window net or chains or bars on the front driver’s door only. Do not make full length on 2 door cars. If your driver’s door bar comes off, or loose on one end at any point during the derby, you will be black flagged for that heat. Grader blade is highly discouraged!
4. A 4 point cage consisting of a single dash bar, a door post bar behind the seat, and a connecting bar on the inside of each front door not to be welded to the door is highly recommended for your safety. “X” bars are also ok, as long as they do not attach to the frame. Kickers or roll bars will also be permitted, but must attach to the floor pan only, not to the frame. Maximum material to be used is 4” round or square tube. At minimum one bar behind the seat.
5.NO compressed fuels allowed[/b]. Gas or diesel only. The original gas tank must be removed. A store-bought fuel cell, boat tank, or homemade steel tank with a maximum capacity of 6 gallons must be securely bolted down on the driver’s side floor board behind the driver’s seat. If tank is plastic, it must be in a 1/8” steel box with lid. Five gallon plastic fuel jugs cannot be used for a gas tank! No exceptions!
6. A minimum of one bar must be welded or bolted in the middle of the windshield opening to protect the driver. No more than 3 bars allowed.
7. A maximum of three batteries are permitted, and must be mounted on the passenger front floor board. It is highly recommended for your safety that it be in a minimum 1/8” steel box not to be used to strengthen the door. Plastic battery boxes are allowed, but you must have a dry cell battery that must be fastened to the floor with not less than two metal straps a minimum of 2 inches wide.
8. Any automotive rear-end may be used with a maximum of five lug wheels. NO SPLIT RIMS! [/b]Tires are unlimited with the exception of no studded tires and all wheel weights must be removed. Steel wheels only!
9. The hood must have a 24” x 24” hole cut over the carburetor or must have two 10 inch holes near the carburetor in case of fire.
10. Radiator must remain in stock location. May have aftermarket mounting, but must be similar to factory radiator support, and made of no thicker than 1/8” material. Cannot be attached to the frame, or used as an extra cross member.
11. Aftermarket shifters, headers, transmission coolers, electric fuel pumps, and electric fans may all be used.
12.All cars will have a roof-top sign 16” x 16” displaying your number. Dark on light, light on dark. Numbers must be 12” tall and 2” wide. The number and driver’s name will also be painted on both front doors.
13.Homemade motor mounts may be used as long as they do not reinforce the frame. May not extend more than 4 inches in front of or behind the engine block or head. Two engine and one transmission mount only in the stock engine location. Engine and transmission may be chained with one wrap of chain only.
14. Tucking or wedging of the trunk is allowed. If judges cannot see in the trunk from the rear seat, a 12” x 12” hole must be cut for inspection.
15.Chaining of the humps is allowed with one wrap only.
Full Size Limited Weld Cars
1. You may weld the factory frame seams only. No cross hatching or hole filling allowed
2. Full weld of the door, hood, and trunk seams using 3/8” rod or 3” x 1/8” strap max. No interior body seam welding except to the driver’s door. Interior body seam is defined as in the passenger compartment.
3. Straps may be used to hold the bumpers to the body. Two straps of max 3/8” x 2” on hood and trunk. No more than 6 inches on the hood or trunk and only to the bottom of the bumper. They must be located at the outer edge of the radiator. If hood is bolted or chained, straps must be bolted on one end so hood can be opened. Straps cannot be welded to redi rod through hood.
4. Bumper can be welded to the body, and directly to the frame without brackets, except on pre 1974 Imperials. Pre 1974 Imperials must have bumpers mounted to the car with the bumper’s original brackets (no homemade brackets. Call if uncertain). Absolutely NO added material to attach bumpers.
5. Bumpers may be switched from whatever to whatever, as long as it is a car bumper. No heavy-duty truck, bus, pickup, or wrecker bumpers. Bumper skins can be welded to inner bumper frame, except on pre 1974 imperials. All bumpers must have at minimum 2 inspection holes 2” in diameter on opposite ends of the bumper if bumper skin is welded to inner bumper frame.
6. Body mounts may be removed. The body may be bolted down in the stock locations only using a maximum of 1” bolts only. NO BODY TO FRAME WELDING!
7. Maximum size of all thread to be used is one inch. All thread may go through the frame in the front 2 body mount locations and in all 4 trunk mount locations only. These are the only locations acceptable to have all thread through your frame. You may run the all thread up through the hood and trunk in those locations. You can also use all thread to bolt the hood down in two additional locations, but the all thread cannot[/b] be through the frame or in front of the radiator. No more than 4 locations in the hood and trunk using 4 x 4 x 1/4 inch washers. Washers cannot be welded to the frame. Cut material may be welded back to the hood only!!! If welded anywhere else, it will be cut!! If bolted or chained must open for inspection if requested by the head official. If chained in 2 locations, one wrap of chain only.
8. You may repair the frame by using a maximum of 1/8” plate not to exceed 2” on either side of the damaged area. No plating of half the frame (i.e. multiple tears in the hump). Do not purposely damage the frame so you can plate it. If extra reinforcement is suspected, or plating beyond what is deemed necessary by the officials, it will be cut out!
9. You may patch the body if there is a tear or a hole. You may only patch a single layer of metal. Do not exceed 3” past the hole in any direction with a maximum of 18 gauge sheet metal. The practice of re-skinning any area of a car (welding another layer of sheet metal over an existing layer) when there is a hole or a tear in a door or fender is not allowed. The practice of placing one patch on top of another patch or beside another patch will not be allowed. The practice of having patches cover the entire side of a car, hood, or trunk lid will not be allowed. If it should be determined by a judge that the repaired area was purposely damaged so that the area could be patched for reinforcement purposes, the car will not pass inspection and will be disqualified without refund.
10.Leaf spring conversions are allowed with as few of modifications as necessary. Rear end must sit on top of springs with no more than eight leafs. No more than 4 spring clamps per side. Two in front and two behind the axle and should be similar in size to factory. No added cross members.
small
Pickups small – compact and full size. BRING EXTRA PARTS TO RUN HEATS IF WE HAVE TOO MANY PICKUPS FOR ONE HEAT!!!
1. All of the above rules apply in addition to the following.
2. Bring spare parts (tires, radiator, gas, etc) as if we have too many pickups, we will run heats.
3. If in doubt of your pickup being a compact, under the judges discretion, you may be moved to the full size class.
4. Any ½ ton, ¾ ton, regular cab, crew cab, suburban, blazer, bronco, carryall, or scout built after 1950 may be used. If unsure, call. No El Camino’s, Ranchero’s, vans, or ambulances.
5. No 4x4 will be allowed. If it is a 4x4, one drive shaft must be removed, it can be either the front or rear.
6. No flat beds, wooden bed floors, utility boxes, pipe bumpers, grill guards, or Head ache racks.
7. Trucks must have a protective cage inside the driver’s compartment not attached to the frame. At minimum this consists of a dash bar, a bar behind the seat, and a bar on either side connecting the two. Roll-over bar is mandatory. It is highly recommended that if your fuel tank is mounted at the front of your box, a safety box may be constructed from the seat bar to go around the fuel tank for protection, but must not be attached to the frame.
8. Original bed mounting bolts and rubber bushings may be replaced with up to 1” bolts with 4” washers. Bed can be bolted directly to the frame, but not welded. Bed may be welded to the cab and to the tailgate with minimal added material.
9. Inner fenders may be welded to the frame. Added material may be no thicker than factory metal. Wheel well openings may be cut for clearance and bolted with up to seven 3/8” bolts. One length of chain will be allowed between frame rails. Chain must be located between rear axle and rear bumper.
10.On single cab pickups, the gas tank may be mounted in the front center of the bed, and must have a splash guard.
11.Single cab pickups must have mesh or bars in the driver’s back window for protection from debris. NO EXCEPTIONS!
12.All engines must have the front spark plug even with or in front of the upper ball joint.
13.Bumpers must be automotive type bumper. No homemade bumpers allowed. Shock bumpers may be installed on trucks that came with bracket mounted bumpers. Maximum bumper height from the bottom of the bumper will be 25”.
14.No lift kits or lift blocks.
Compact
small
1.All of the above rules apply to the compacts with the following exceptions.
2. Wheel base will not exceed 106”. Can be foreign or American made.
3.Front or rear wheel drive only. No 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive.
School Buses – Please call with questions if unsure!!!!
1. American made school bus with stock wheelbase for year, make, and model.
2. All glass, molding, fiberglass (including hoods), interior (anything that can burn) must be removed.
3. Minimum 35 passenger bus. Maximum 70 passenger bus. No short Buses!!!
4. No flat nose buses allowed. Engine must be located in front of bus. [/i][/b]
5. No alterations allowed unless specified.[/i][/b]
6. Gas tank and battery must be mounted in passenger compartment in a safe and secured manner in case of roll-over.
7. Front bumper may be trimmed for tire clearance, but otherwise bumpers, frame, and suspension must remain stock. No reinforcement!!!
8. Front entrance door must be removed, and bottom half of opening must be enclosed using cross bars or solid metal.
9. Bars or other substantial reinforcement must be installed in front of the driver to prevent the steering column from being forced down or back into the driver’s lap.
10.A roll bar for the driver is highly recommended! This should be constructed in such a way to keep the roof from collapsing on you.
11.Any other parts that may fall off and be a danger to you or another driver must be removed
12.NO hitting of the bus at the driver’s location!
13.NO LICKING THE WINDOWS!!!
No Weld Full Size Cars
1. The General car building rules apply to this class as well as the following rules.
2. No 1973 or earlier Imperials, convertibles, limousines, or hearses.
3. Cars must be stock, which is defined as follows: Modification of a vehicles body, frame, or bumpers by adding steel, pipe, or wire or other foreign materials to the car to assure greater strength is not permitted, except where specified.
4. 5 m.p.h or shock bumpers will be allowed only on vehicles of that year for which they were manufactured for and cannot be welded. NO EXCEPTIONS!
5. No welding of frames or any other welding except where specified in rules.
6. Rubber body mounts must remain as stock.
7. Front doors may be welded. No other welding allowed.
8. Trunk lid, rear doors, and hood can be chained or wired to body only.

3. Straps may be used to hold the bumpers to the body. Two straps of max 3/8” x 2” on hood and trunk. No more than 6 inches on the hood or trunk and only to the bottom of the bumper. They must be located at the outer edge of the radiator. If hood is bolted or chained, straps must be bolted on one end so hood can be opened. Straps cannot be welded to redi rod through hood.
4. Bumper can be welded to the body, and directly to the frame without brackets, except on pre 1974 Imperials. Pre 1974 Imperials must have bumpers mounted to the car with the bumper’s original brackets (no homemade brackets. Call if uncertain). Absolutely NO added material to attach bumpers.
5. Bumpers may be switched from whatever to whatever, as long as it is a car bumper. No heavy-duty truck, bus, pickup, or wrecker bumpers. Bumper skins can be welded to inner bumper frame, except on pre 1974 imperials. All bumpers must have at minimum 2 inspection holes 2” in diameter on opposite ends of the bumper if bumper skin is welded to inner bumper frame.
6. Body mounts may be removed. The body may be bolted down in the stock locations only using a maximum of 1” bolts only. NO BODY TO FRAME WELDING!
7. Maximum size of all thread to be used is one inch. All thread may go through the frame in the front 2 body mount locations and in all 4 trunk mount locations only. These are the only locations acceptable to have all thread through your frame. You may run the all thread up through the hood and trunk in those locations. You can also use all thread to bolt the hood down in two additional locations, but the all thread cannot[/b] be through the frame or in front of the radiator. No more than 4 locations in the hood and trunk using 4 x 4 x 1/4 inch washers. Washers cannot be welded to the frame. Cut material may be welded back to the hood only!!! If welded anywhere else, it will be cut!! If bolted or chained must open for inspection if requested by the head official. If chained in 2 locations, one wrap of chain only.
8. You may repair the frame by using a maximum of 1/8” plate not to exceed 2” on either side of the damaged area. No plating of half the frame (i.e. multiple tears in the hump). Do not purposely damage the frame so you can plate it. If extra reinforcement is suspected, or plating beyond what is deemed necessary by the officials, it will be cut out!
9. You may patch the body if there is a tear or a hole. You may only patch a single layer of metal. Do not exceed 3” past the hole in any direction with a maximum of 18 gauge sheet metal. The practice of re-skinning any area of a car (welding another layer of sheet metal over an existing layer) when there is a hole or a tear in a door or fender is not allowed. The practice of placing one patch on top of another patch or beside another patch will not be allowed. The practice of having patches cover the entire side of a car, hood, or trunk lid will not be allowed. If it should be determined by a judge that the repaired area was purposely damaged so that the area could be patched for reinforcement purposes, the car will not pass inspection and will be disqualified without refund.
10.Leaf spring conversions are allowed with as few of modifications as necessary. Rear end must sit on top of springs with no more than eight leafs. No more than 4 spring clamps per side. Two in front and two behind the axle and should be similar in size to factory. No added cross members.

Pickups small – compact and full size. BRING EXTRA PARTS TO RUN HEATS IF WE HAVE TOO MANY PICKUPS FOR ONE HEAT!!!
1. All of the above rules apply in addition to the following.
2. Bring spare parts (tires, radiator, gas, etc) as if we have too many pickups, we will run heats.
3. If in doubt of your pickup being a compact, under the judges discretion, you may be moved to the full size class.
4. Any ½ ton, ¾ ton, regular cab, crew cab, suburban, blazer, bronco, carryall, or scout built after 1950 may be used. If unsure, call. No El Camino’s, Ranchero’s, vans, or ambulances.
5. No 4x4 will be allowed. If it is a 4x4, one drive shaft must be removed, it can be either the front or rear.
6. No flat beds, wooden bed floors, utility boxes, pipe bumpers, grill guards, or Head ache racks.
7. Trucks must have a protective cage inside the driver’s compartment not attached to the frame. At minimum this consists of a dash bar, a bar behind the seat, and a bar on either side connecting the two. Roll-over bar is mandatory. It is highly recommended that if your fuel tank is mounted at the front of your box, a safety box may be constructed from the seat bar to go around the fuel tank for protection, but must not be attached to the frame.
8. Original bed mounting bolts and rubber bushings may be replaced with up to 1” bolts with 4” washers. Bed can be bolted directly to the frame, but not welded. Bed may be welded to the cab and to the tailgate with minimal added material.
9. Inner fenders may be welded to the frame. Added material may be no thicker than factory metal. Wheel well openings may be cut for clearance and bolted with up to seven 3/8” bolts. One length of chain will be allowed between frame rails. Chain must be located between rear axle and rear bumper.
10.On single cab pickups, the gas tank may be mounted in the front center of the bed, and must have a splash guard.
11.Single cab pickups must have mesh or bars in the driver’s back window for protection from debris. NO EXCEPTIONS!
12.All engines must have the front spark plug even with or in front of the upper ball joint.
13.Bumpers must be automotive type bumper. No homemade bumpers allowed. Shock bumpers may be installed on trucks that came with bracket mounted bumpers. Maximum bumper height from the bottom of the bumper will be 25”.
14.No lift kits or lift blocks.
Compact
small
1.All of the above rules apply to the compacts with the following exceptions.
2. Wheel base will not exceed 106”. Can be foreign or American made.
3.Front or rear wheel drive only. No 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive.
School Buses – Please call with questions if unsure!!!!
1. American made school bus with stock wheelbase for year, make, and model.
2. All glass, molding, fiberglass (including hoods), interior (anything that can burn) must be removed.
3. Minimum 35 passenger bus. Maximum 70 passenger bus. No short Buses!!!
4. No flat nose buses allowed. Engine must be located in front of bus. [/i][/b]
5. No alterations allowed unless specified.[/i][/b]
6. Gas tank and battery must be mounted in passenger compartment in a safe and secured manner in case of roll-over.
7. Front bumper may be trimmed for tire clearance, but otherwise bumpers, frame, and suspension must remain stock. No reinforcement!!!
8. Front entrance door must be removed, and bottom half of opening must be enclosed using cross bars or solid metal.
9. Bars or other substantial reinforcement must be installed in front of the driver to prevent the steering column from being forced down or back into the driver’s lap.
10.A roll bar for the driver is highly recommended! This should be constructed in such a way to keep the roof from collapsing on you.
11.Any other parts that may fall off and be a danger to you or another driver must be removed
12.NO hitting of the bus at the driver’s location!
13.NO LICKING THE WINDOWS!!!
No Weld Full Size Cars
1. The General car building rules apply to this class as well as the following rules.
2. No 1973 or earlier Imperials, convertibles, limousines, or hearses.
3. Cars must be stock, which is defined as follows: Modification of a vehicles body, frame, or bumpers by adding steel, pipe, or wire or other foreign materials to the car to assure greater strength is not permitted, except where specified.
4. 5 m.p.h or shock bumpers will be allowed only on vehicles of that year for which they were manufactured for and cannot be welded. NO EXCEPTIONS!
5. No welding of frames or any other welding except where specified in rules.
6. Rubber body mounts must remain as stock.
7. Front doors may be welded. No other welding allowed.
8. Trunk lid, rear doors, and hood can be chained or wired to body only.
