I'm looking at a 1985 with one in it. Are they junk or are they decent motors?

IMO, they are good for MPG, typically 18-20mpg. They don't have much power for get up and go..... they'll go for a long time, just not very quickly. Parts are all over, plus cheap military surplus units available. You can get turbos for them, which help a lot.

All the turbo parts from a 6.5 can be swapped on fairly easy. then u gotta decent towing power on the cheap

a buddy of mine had a couple pickups with the 6.2 diesel in them.they got decent mileage and were very dependable motors.however, like stated above, they didn,t have much power.

Not a bad motor all around, with a little bit of work you can get some cheap power out of one. Good for fuel mileage, towing if you put a turbo and bigger exhaust and intake on it. I know a few guys that love there 6.2.

if you can afford a duramax then there is really no comparison......unless duramax is out of your price range....i'd try to find a 6.5 though instead of 6.2.......you can find 7.3 powerstrokes on the cheap now with high miles, that would be a way better option as well

I have a cummins as my driver.
This thread is very old, I was looking at a rv to put on my job sites but I've already bought a new towable.
