Just a little rant
Too many times i have come and left a derby seeing guys and gals with their cars/trucks tied down with two little straps or just a winch!!! Come on, its not just your load at stake, what about those behind you? For 75-100 bucks you can get a set of good 3/8 chains and two load binders, he!! you use that chain on most cars already, why not use it for road safety?
I for one cant stand seeing straps as it is sooooo easy for a piece of bent tin to cut it, i have never heard of a load the size of our cars to break a 3/8 chain! ALL YOU NEED IT ONE UP FRONT ONE and ONE IN THE REAR and your SAFE! Not to mention using little straps is against the law, who enjoys getting pulled over by the cops?
Not to put anyone down, just my two cents on that subject!

Couldn't agree more. I use four chains and two load binders. Oh and make sure your lights work especially at night.

me and my brother use 4 straps and sometimes a Chain come-a-long. but out straps go up around the lower A arms and criss cross onto D hooks, and the rear ones go around the rear axle and criss cross to D rings. but we have the hooks we can hook to any hole we can find if neither are able to get to. and we also take rubber peaces that we will put around rough metal or near it if we think it could rub. and if we stop at anytime im always checking them.
I want to thank you because this is a serious thing and its sad alot of people will most likely throw it under the rug because they dont want to waste the little bit of extra money.

I've always used chains front and rear, to the lowest point of the suspension. and straps through the front and rear windows on the body. only time I ever lost one off the trailer is when boy drove it off the side last year

Wow Rope?
What are you tying down? a Power Wheels?
This is about as bad as that guy that said he used 2" strap in the same topic but other section.
About the only thing I'll use rope or strap for is going through windows or tying junk and debree down on my trailer AFTER ALL MY CHAINS are used up.I carry 10 5-8ft chains and 2 J hooks.I have 8 binders and 3 cumalongs.
I don't carry anymore straps after breaking 3 or 4 last year tying down debree they rub and break don't even need to be on a sharp surface.
I can put 1 fullsize car on my trailer or 2 compacts.

I've seen guys that put straps through there window...well, guess what happened the last time they did that?
I was told by a state trooper (after I was given a warning) that a vehicle, no matter the size, must be tied down in 4 points (2 in front, 2 in rear) at the lowest point on the suspension. And that (In Kansas) If your load is over a certain amount, you must have 1 brake per axle. I don't want what I have been putting blood, sweat, and cash in to fall off the trailer. Especially if someone was following me, since everyone tailgates people with trailers.

you was told wrong then fed law states one chain per 6 foot of load so only would we 2 or 3 chains for a regular full size demo car im a cdl (a) driver instructor for one of the safest otr flat bed company's out there i would love to be pulled over for only having 2 cains holding my load id see the officer in court and walk away with him getting a scolding from the judge but by all mean's saftey is of major concern and can never be to safe

HERE IS WHAT THE FEDERAL REGULATIONS ACTUALLY ARE, I COPY AND PASTED THEM FOR YOUR VIEWING PLEASURE, AND TO PROVE THAT YOU ARE INCORRECT IN GIVING THAT ADVISE. AS AN INSTRUCTOR, I WOULD ASSUME THAT YOU WOULD TELL YOUR FUTURE TRUCK DRIVERS OF AMERICA TO NOT DO JUST THE BARE MINIMUM TO GET BY WITH. HERE ARE THE REGS.. Minimum Number of Tie-Downs The number of tie-downs required is dependent upon the size and weight of the cargo transported. According to the Cargo Securement Rules manual, one tie-down is required for every five feet or less in length and 1,100 pounds or greater than five feet but less than ten feet, regardless of weight. Read more: DOT Rules for Tie Downs | eHow.com www.ehow.com/list_6652056_dot-rules-tie-downs.html#ixzz1psMROu77 SO THIS WOULD MEAN THAT EVERY FULL SIZED DERBY CAR SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST 4 TIE DOWNS ON IT. FIGURING AN IMPALA AT MORE THAN 17 FEET, THAT EQUALS 1 TIEDOWN FOR EVERY FIVE FEET, PLUS ANOTHER TIE DOWN FOR ANY SECTION OF FIVE FEET= 4 TIE DOWNS. BEING ARROGANT AND POSTING " I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THEM DO THAT, ILL SEE THEM IN COURT", ONLY SHOWS THAT YOU ARE NOT FULLY AWARE OF THE LAW YOURSELF. I AM NOT POSTING THIS TO BE A PRICK ( HARD TO BELIEVE,HUH? ) BUT TO SHOW EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT HAULS DERBY CARS ON A TRAILER THAT READS THIS THREAD THAT HAVING 4 POINTS OF TIEDOWN, PLUS A SAFETY CHAIN, IS MUCH BETTER THAN YOUR IDEA OF 1 IN FRONT, 1 IN BACK... SOMETIMES COMMON SENSE, IS EVEN BETTER THAN WHAT THE MINIMUM LAW REQUIRES......
