Just a little rant Too many times i have come and left a derby seeing guys and gals with their cars/trucks tied down with two little straps or just a winch!!! Come on, its not just your load at stake, what about those behind you? For 75-100 bucks you can get a set of good 3/8 chains and two load binders, he!! you use that chain on most cars already, why not use it for road safety? I for one cant stand seeing straps as it is sooooo easy for a piece of bent tin to cut it, i have never heard of a load the size of our cars to break a 3/8 chain! ALL YOU NEED IT ONE UP FRONT ONE and ONE IN THE REAR and your SAFE! Not to mention using little straps is against the law, who enjoys getting pulled over by the cops? Not to put anyone down, just my two cents on that subject! Read more: www.wesmash.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=630#ixzz1nMIIS4jn

I prefer 4 point chain.... I've had chains break before.lucky is was the rear chain and car went forward and bent my winch. I used to tie cars 2 in front 1 in rear on that paticular instance, now its 4 point since that incident. I also agree with your rant.I see it all too much also and those guys with lawnmower trailers with cars on them? WTF?

Too many guys just dont take into consideration the weight-trailer capacity and/or strap capacity and it gets pretty scary

i just lost the first car off my trailer in 12 years yesterday... been doing it the same way for years with no problems. i had an equipment failure... just goes to show CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT! and replace straps every few years.

About the only good for 2 inch strap is to hold a radiator in my derby car.Speaking of witch need to pick a couple up.
I wouldn't even use it for rock climbing if that's what it were used for. That's how much I trust it.
I broke 4 3" straps this year doing various things. They don't even need to rub on a sharp edge to get cut or ripped.Note I didn't use them for tying down a car.Point being they are not reliable.
Chains all the way.

A chain is just strong as the weakest link or incase of a strap... weakest thread

ALL YOU NEED IT ONE UP FRONT ONE and ONE IN THE REAR and your SAFE! THIS STATEMENT IS SO WRONG......... WHAT HAPPENS WHEN EITHER CHAIN COMES LOOSE OR BREAKS? ??

This thread and its predecessors gave me an "oh sh-t" moment on the way to work the other day when I got behind a pickup truck hauling a Neon on a U-Haul trailer on the freeway. It was slow, so I could look at it and I thought, "where is this thing tied down and should I bail?" It was also front out. I couldn't see any tie-downs and it wasn't squatted into the trailer. Looked like a recipe for disaster, my exit was 2 miles from the merge where I saw this.

I use a 3/8" nylon rope and put a brick in front and back of 1 of the wheels.
