I have thought the same thing, but figured they were outlawed, since they are rear engined and all. But a plus would be you don't have to worry about your radiator going!

True...Very True.... But I would think that the other compact guys would throw a poop fit so you'd have to leave it on the trailer. Would a VW aircooled engine fit in a Ford escort wagon?.......

no a vw bug wouldnt be a good car to run there uni body with rear mounted engine and trunk is in the front just sheet metal and you wouldt take but 2 or 3 shots t othe front and the cars front end would be gone the motors are very strong and reliable and can be pushed up to 250 hp plus i was thinging of swaping a vw air cooled motor in an full sized and really gearing it down then u get the bennifits of air cooled and heavy metal

this is 450 hp + it would not be good in a derby. very thin sheet metal, no structure really. light hits on the street do major damage.

THE PROBLEM WOULD BE THE ENGINE/ TRANSAXLE OVER DRIVELINE ARRANGEMENT. AS SUCH IN A VW BUG, YOU COULD IN THEORY SWAP THE WHOLE UNIT INTO ANOTHER CAR.. BUT......... THE ENGINE WILL EITHER BE TOO FAR FORWARD, TOO FAR REARWARD, AND HOW WOULD YOU STEER IT? AS THE REAR AXLES HAVE FIXED KNUCKLES WITHOUT ANY STEERING... WASTE OF TIME, DRYBLOCK ANY GAS ENGINE, SEASON IT AND PRAY......

you are thinking of pre 67 axles. 68 1/2 and later have a cv arangment just like a fwd car. still wouldnt be worth the hastle to have a 50 hp derby car, haha!

there already is an adapter to bolt a air cooled vw motor to a regular gm 350 or 400 trans and hit man our close to right no need to put in a 40 to 60 horse motoer but i was talking more like one in your last post 450 or so hp even 260wiith 600 gears and 10" rims will be alot of power to the ground
