Herd it was due to a purse change. Maybe someone else can confirm that. Care to elaborate where that came from?

This was my first Derby Icons show to watch and help in the pits. Torry and company changed it up for the first time,(as I'm told) in the drivers meeting they made it very clear they would not tolerate sandbagging, and had spotters in the crowd that would relay who was sandbagging. They also changed the game extremely by only annoucing the drivers for each heat after the previous heat was over. It took out the "deal making" to a certain extent. On the other hand if I was driving I woulda had an absolute panic attack from anxiety not knowing what heat I was gonna be in! The national anthem was performed by David Gard himself, and I believe I speak for most of the crowd in saying it was good! First heat made an example for the rest of the show, within minutes drivers were being tossed and after 2 gone the pace picked up double. From there the pace was set for all the heats and yes other drivers throughout the heat races were tossed. Some got away with more bagging than others, but for the most part if you were sitting still you got your clock cleaned or got the boot. The tempo of the show overall was great, they had plenty of bobcats and such to remove the heat cars. The team show EPR vs Team 34 was last event of the night and was everything I thought it would be. This video is the best I could find but still does no justice to the show. The video does not show the start of the match but both teams started nose out. The 2nd day of derbying had contestants working all day, the sound of constant hammers, welders, grinders etc and great weather made a perfect derby atmosphere. The Consi was split into 2 events, first 3 heats in consi one, last 3 heats in consi two, followed by the stock class. The main event had roughly 40 cars and after Torry announced to start the engines it left the bleachers vibrating for the first half of the heat. Overall it was a great show, one of the best I've saw. The feature reminded me of some of the DENT features, all top quality cars and drivers and everyone had a shot at the money. So there you go Mr Lucas, I didn't give a play by play so I thought an review would satisfy.

Herd it was due to a purse change. Maybe someone else can confirm that. As a Promoter yourself, you should know that speculation is never a good thing. And for you to be the one doing it.. even worse. Derby Icons has never cut a purse. We always pay what we advertise and usually more.. This show was no exception. We paid more spots than advertised in the bone stock and paid the top 10 in the feature. No cuts were made. You have my phone number JR.. Maybe next time, do me the courtesy of a phone call before you post incorrect information. The total purse was over $30,000. As for the car count... we were aware in advance of a number of people who were not able to make the show. They called us days or weeks prior to the event. We expected 90 cars in the 80's class. We wound up with 86. Pretty good, I think... and the cars that did not show were locals. David Gard Derby Icons

And it wasn't just locals that dropped out. If you want to dog somebody about putting out misinformation, try putting out correct info yourself!!!!

Glad I didn't take a car, Randy swarzkopf's car was built by toast and inspected by toast, not fair even if it was legal, several dash bars a lot closer than 5" including the winning car, stuff on lemangers car that was allowed on Friday but he was told to cut on Saturday and what looked like bondo hiding something on quarter panel, and I believe the rules say same year frame as body but seems like every DI show has a couple box body's on 98-02 frames, seems like the inspections are going south, that's my side of the story whether u like it or not

Let's see first off I brought Adam's car up for inspection on Saturday because he was busy trying to help Team 34 put there cars back together. So I can tell you that what you are saying is a total LIE. Adam did not have to cut a single thing on Saturday when I brought his car through inspection. The two places that were cut right under the roof line were cut the night before!! On both sides of the car it was rotted out and so we fixed it with no more of a 2x4 piece of sheet metal. DI inspectors did not like it so they had us cut it....... There was never any Bondo involved!!!!!!! SO THIS IS MY SIDE OF THE STORY WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT...... BUT WAIT IT IS THE TRUTH AND NOT A LIE TRYING TO MAKE OTHERS LOOK BAD. Brian Bruns

Jim the writing had been on the wall for years... DI is a sinking ship (kinda like the "New Wecrash"...lol) with the terrible payouts, no car count at all the shows, and no fans in the stands to keep funding the derbies... Get Out while you can...lol

First, let’s start by saying WHY BE SO darn NEGATIVE?
Everyone knows as a promoter (which I am not) you can not please everyone.
We have complained for a few years now about all of the bagging. Now DI tries to do
Something about it, and they are still wrong. What is wrong with you people? You
Wonder why people are so negative! JMO it is people that –itch, moan and complain all
of the time or have nothing nice or helpful to say. If you would take half of you’re time
And do something productive (i.e.) actually do something to help this sport. Then maybe
Just maybe you would find out that life is what you make it. You want drama go some
Where else.
Jafo and 767 my questions to both of you
1. How many $26,000.00 to $30,000.00 shows do you promote? 2. How much money did you or did you not win at this show?
Maddog 1. Really? Sounds to me like you are just jealous.
bbr55
1. Writing on the wall. Please fill me in on this because I have missed it. How many other shows have the following that DI has? Terrible payouts. How many other $10,000.00 to win shows are there (I am sure there are some.) Car count Not sure about this one either MM is always full. 86 cars in Arkansas with $3.85 a gallon gas. 26 or 27 from Illinois 26 or 27 from Missouri. SE will be full Please in lighting me.
I love this sport just not all of the drama.
