Stock Derby 1980 Up Class
PLEASE READ THESE RULES THROUGHLY DURING CAR PREPERATION. ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS LISTED IN THIS RULE BOOKLET IS VERY IMPORTANT TO YOU AS A BUILDER AND A DRIVER BEFORE, DURING, AND AFTER COMPETITION OF THIS EVENT. YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TWO TRIPS THOUGH TECH LINE ONLY !PLEASE READ CAREFULLY !
Preparation:
I. All glass, plastic, and pot metal must be removed. Nothing may remain in the bottom of the doors or trunks. All outside hardware must be removed (door handles, mirrors, chrome, molding, screw, fiber glass, Station Wagon Decking, etc)
2. No added weight or metal to the car except the weld. No buffing, grinding, or packing the frames, trunks, doors, or under floor.
3. Front seats must be securely mounted to the floor however if you are using bolts to secure the seat, they may not go through the frame .All cars MUST have a operable seat belt. All cars MUST have inner padding on driver's door.
4. All flammable materials inside the car must be removed except necessary safety padding and seat.
5. A pipe or bar behind (max 5" O.D.) the seat may only be positioned no further than 6 inches behind the back of the front seat. An optional pipe may also be put in the front inside area where the dashboard was located, in between the front door posts. A 6" by 6" plate at the end of the pipe may be welded to the interior of the car behind the seat and the bars must be welded to these plates. You may connect the bar behind the seat and the dash bar with a bar on both the drivers and passenger side to make a 4 point box style cage. If you want to put a roll loop in that is fine but may not be attached to floor or roof (connect it to the bar behind your seat).
Fuel Pumps:
1. Electric Fuel Pumps are allowed. We strongly suggest for your safety that electric fuel pumps have a cutoff switch near steering wheel , or within arm reach of driver and marked in Large Red Letters.
Tires:
Tires no bigger than 31 inch (any ply) may be used. No split rims, studded tires or tractor lugs. Foam filled or Doubled tires are OK-we don't want any flats!!! Valve seam protectors allowed but do not screw tire to the rim. No tires any taller than 31" from ground to top of tread.
Brakes:
1. All cars must exhibit the ability to stop. If a car loses its braking ability it will be subject to disqualification. All cars must have brakes to pass inspection. There will be NO DISCUSSION ON THIS MATTER ALL OFFICIALS DECISION WILL BE FINAL !
'Engines, transmissions and rear ends:
1. Any power train combination may be used in any car, but must be mounted within 5" inches of the original motor location .Power train combination must be mounted securely. You may cut a hole in the firewall to accommodate the engine. However it should be covered to prevent a fire hazard for your safety.
2. No holes will be allowed in the front floor of the car except to accommodate the transmission shifter, fuel lines, transmission lines and wiring. Patching holes is for safety not reinforcement; if patching rust holes you may use sheet metal only and not exceed 2" past where rust stops.
3. Stock motor mounts may be welded; transmission and motors may be chained, only to secure motor. Chains must attach to an existing bolt, do not weld or add plates to attach engine or transmission chains to the frame . You will be allowed to weld your cross member in immediate area only !
NO ENGINE CRADLES OR PROTECTORS OF ANY KIND DESIGNED TO REENFORCE THE CAR IN ANY WAY . YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO RUN THE STYLE OF ENGINE CRADLE THAT CONNECTS TO THE ORGIONAL MOTOR MOUNT AREA AROUND TO THE FRONT FOUR BOLTS ON FRONT OF THE BLOCK! THIS TYPE CRADLE IS DESIGNED TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR ENGINE NOT TO RENFORCE ANY AREA OF YOUR CAR. IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS RULE CALL ! OFFICIALS DECISION WILL BE FINAL ON THIS MATTER ! YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO RUN A CRANKSHAFT PULLEY PROTECTOR . NO PRODUCTS DESIGNED TO REENFORCE THE CAR IN ANY WAY WILL BE ALLOWED.THERE WILL BE NO DISCUSSION !
4. Rear ends must be of a passenger car origin only. You may use any type (Ford/GM/MoparlHybrid) rear end in any make of car, no floater or truck rear-ends may be used. Rear end braces will be allowed. No metal added to the inside or ends of control arms. Control arms must remain factory.
5. You may chain or wire your axle to the frame, to prevent loss of leaf or coil springs, you may use 3/8inch chain or 4 loops of wire, do not weld or add metal, must be looped around frame and axle, unibody cars may use one bolt through frame(no excessive washers).
6. You may not weld any chain links to create a bar effect.
Bumpers:
I. Bumpers are interchangeable. Any Automotive bumper and bumper brackets may be used on any car. No homemade bumpers or brackets.
2. You may weld the bumper seams, shocks and the brackets to the frame. If you choose not to use brackets, you may weld bumpers directly to the frame however NO ADDED METAL may be used to complete this process .No material (ADDED METIAL ) allowed as a filler such as bolts, all thread, flat metal plate , angle iron , pipe , or other objects required to fill a gap during welding process. Your Bumper must mate to the frame or body as flush as possible . During installation of your bumper if there is a gap between your bumper and frame the gap MUST be filled with a weld only . NO FILLERS OF ANY KIND PERIOD !
1 INCH WIDE MAX. ON BUMPER WELDS .
If you are caught with added metal in your bumper in pre inspection you will be told by officials to remove added metal before you can compete in event.
If you are caught after event during final inspection with added metal in your bumper once your car has changed its original form you will be disqualified !
ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL ON THE MATTER BY OFFICIALS THERE WILL BE NO DISCUSSION !
No welding on frame except the brackets.
3. Bumpers may be cut so they do not smash into the tires during the event: Bumpers may be flipped.
4. Compression bumper shocks may be drained, slid back into the shock and welded fully. Weld them good we don't want bumpers on the track
5. No material may be added other than the weld.
6. No bumper chrome or backside of bumper may be welded to the body. EXAMPLE ( BUMPERS WELDED TO FENDERS )
Frame:
1. There's absolutely no welding on the frame unless specified in the rules.
2. All body mounts must be stock and in place.
3. You may replace stock bolts and washers on outside of body and frame, but must not exceed stock bolt diameter or 5" inch washer diameter.
4. No body bolt may extend below frame except for your front two bolts (allthread) in radiator support, all other bolts and nuts must be inside of frame.
5. Do not paint, undercoat or cover the frame in anyway.
IF YOU BRING A CAR TO INSPECTION WITH MUD ON YOUR FRAME YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE IN EVENT UNTIL UNDERSIDE OF YOUR CAR IS CLEAN FOR INSPECTION !
6. TILTING OR COLD BENDING OF FRAME IS NOT ALLOWED !FRONT FRAME AREA MUST REMAIN IN ORGINAL FORMAT !
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO CHANGE MOTOR CRADLES , OR REAR END CROSSMEMBERS IN FRAMES ! WHAT YOUR CAR CAME WITH IS WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO RUN ! NO CROSS BREEDING FRAMES !
IF YOU BRING A CAR TO THIS EVENT WITH THE FRAME ALTERED OTHER THAT WHAT IS LISTED YOU WILL NOT COMPETE IN THIS EVENT.
7. YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO NOTCH OR DIMPLE REAR FRAME SECTION NO WELDING ALLOWED TO COMPLETE THIS PROCESS !
Radiators & Radiator supports:
1. Radiators must stay in the stock position. (No added water capacity).
2. Lower Radiator support body mount bushings may be removed and replaced with Max. 1" bolt(allthread) and can go up through your hood (counts as hood bolts). You will be allowed to either leave your radiator support bushing in place , or sit your radiator support flat on the frame. NO METAL SPACERS ALLOWED !
3. Manual or electric fans can be used, but not both.
Transmission coolers:
1. Transmission coolers will be allowed.
Overall safety will be determined by officials at time of inspection.
Doors and windows:
YOU HAVE THREE CHOICES . YOU MUST PICK ONE OF THE THREE .
YOU CAN NOT COMBINE ALL THREE OPTIONS TO COMPLETE PROCESS !
1. 1. All doors may be welded. If doors are welded no larger than 3 INCH WIDE ¼ THICK ”plate may be used. NO added metal thicker than 1/4” may be used .. YOU WILL BE ALLOWED TO WELD YOUR DOORS VERTICAL FROM TOP OF DOOR FRAME AT ROOF DOWN TO ROCKER PANEL.
WELDING OF DOORS HORIZONTAL ACROSS THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF DOOR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED !
VERTICAL WELD ON DOORS ONLY ! THIS MEANS UP AND DOWN !
NOT ACROSS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT ON TOP OF DOOR OR BOTTOM OF DOOR !
YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO USE DUCT TAPE ON ANY DOORS EXCEPT DRIVERS DOOR FOR PADDING FOR YOUR OVERALL SAFETY AS A DRIVER !
2. If you chain or wire doors use wire or chain twice per seam. If chaining or wiring, none may go thru or around the frame.
No more than 2 bolts per door no larger than 1" with no washer larger than 6" and 1/4 " thick.
3. A minimum of one bar, chain or wire running from the outside (top) of roof down to the cowl on the front window can be in place for safety.
4. Drivers door may have window netting for drivers protection. No other window opening is allowed to have any form of window netting which includes #9 wire.
Welding:
I. The only welding allowed is the bumpers shocks, bumper brackets and seams, cowl bar and seat bar, motor mounts, transmission cross member , safety pipes and doors.
2. Hood or trunk lid must be able to open
3. No body seam welding allowed inside or out, unless specified.
Bolting:
1. All body bolts must be stock size (example-GMs are 7/l6")except radiator core support (may replace old bolts with new bolts).
2. May use 4 (four) hood bolts or all thread to hold the hood down. They may be a maximum of 1" in diameter.Rear bolts or all thread in hood must be sheet metal to sheet metal only,
The front two bolts or all thread may go through the frame only !
3. May use 4 (four) 1 inch bolts to secure the trunk lid or tailgate, however may not go through the frame.
SHEETMETAL TO SHEETMETAL IN TRUNK AREA ONLY ! YOU CAN NOT RUN YOUR ALLTHREAD DOWN BOTH SIDES OF THE FRAME AND CONNECT THE TWO WITH A PLATE ACROSS THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME !
4. Washers may not exceed 6" (five) inches in diameter and 1/4 " thick.
5. Only three 3/8" bolts or self tapping screws with l" washers per cutout hole (trunk hood), or wheel well.
6. No welding of the cutouts is allowed.
7. You must have a l2Xl2 inch or 2 6"X18" hole in hood in case of fire.
8. Hood and trunks must be off or open during inspection. IF YOU COME TO INSPECTION AND YOUR TRUNK AND HOOD IS NOT OPEN YOU WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION !
Chains:
1. 3/8" inch chain is allowed to secure front and rear bumpers to the frame. Only two chains may be used per bumper.
2. No chain may be welded at any point to the frame or body.
3. If you don't secure hood , trunk or doors using bolts you may chain or wire the hood or trunk in 2 places with chain no longer than 3/8" inches. Please refer to door rule above for chaining rules on doors .Do not wrap chain around the frame. Sheet metal to sheet metal only.
4. You may chain your motor, but it must be bolted to an existing bolt, do not weld chain to frame.
Gas Tanks:
1. Original gas tanks must be removed from the car.
2. You must have gas tank securely mounted inside the car, behind the driver's seat and covered. Your fuel line may only be ran inside of the car and may not go down through the floor and along the frame rail.
3. No home-made gas tanks, all gas tanks must be designed to hold gasoline. If you choose to run a gas tank protector it must follow the perimeter of the gas tank. Gas tank protector may bolt to floor only. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO WELD GAS TANK PROTECTOR IN PLACE !.GAS TANK PROTECTOR MUST NOT EXIBIT ANY FORM OF REENFORCEMENT IN ANY WAY FASION OR FOURM ! YOU ARE ALLOWED TO RUN A GAS TANK PROTECTOR FOR SAFETY REASONS , NOT FOR REENFORCEMENT REASONS!
4. Overall safety and design will be determined by officials at time of inspection.
Battery:
1 (Maximum of2 (two) 12-volt batteries may be used.
2. The batteries must be securely mounted inside the car.
3. Overall safety will be determined by officials at time of inspection.
Suspension:
1. Suspension must be Original Factory for that make and model of car.
COIL SPRING CARS MUST RUN COIL SPRING REAR ENDS , LEAF SPRING CARS MUST RUN LEAF SPRING RREAR ENDS, WATTS LINK CARS MUST RUN WATTS LINK REAR ENDS !
(No pulling shocks and putting pipes in their place).
2. No other means other than tires and coil spring spacers may be used to raise the car's front suspension. Both ends of car must have a working suspension and bounce freely.
3. No adding reinforcements to the suspension or steering parts. Steering wheel to control box can be modified only.
4. No putting leaf springs on top of the axle.
5. You may not clamp the shocks. No solid suspension.
6. No welding. Springs must be of passenger car origin. NO TRUCK LEAF SPRINGS ALLOWED.
7. Suspension must work. Air shocks lines must be cut.
Each driver will be allowed only one truck and trailer in the pits before and during event .
Pull truck , trailer , car ONLY ! IF ATTENDANCE IS HIGH AND PIT ROOM IS LIMITED PLEASE BE AWARE YOU MAY BE ASKED TO REMOVE YOUR TRAILER TO PARKING LOT TO ACCOMIDATE MORE PIT ROOM !
NO PROFANTY OR OBJECTS OF ANY KIND WILL BE TOLERATED OR ALLOWED ON ANY CAR IN COMPETITION , NO OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE SPOLEN, PRINTED , OR IMPLIED ON CARS WILL BE ALLOWED ! YOU AS A DRIVER ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CAR ,YOUSELF AS A DRIVER & YOUR PIT CREW AND ANY PROFANITY OR OBCENICY FROM A DRIVER , FAMILY MEMBER ,PIT CREW OR ANY PERSONS ASSOCIATED WITH YOU AS THE DRIVER. ANY DISRESPECT TO A OFFICIAL OR OTHER DRIVERS WILL IMEDIATELY RESULT IN DISQUALIFACATION !
OFFICIALS DECISION WILL BE FI NAL ON THIS MATTER ! THERE WILL BE NO DISCUSSION PERIOD !
THERE RULES ARE NOT A SUGGETSION OR A MENU . WHAT YOU ARE ALLOWED TO DO DURING PREPERATION IS LISTED CLEARLY ! PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO READ ANY DEEPER INTO RULES LISTED ABOVE ! NO GREY AREAS !
